The 1990s arguably represents Mitsubishi Motors’ best years in the US. The Montero and Eclipse were each respected in their classes and enjoyed reasonable sales success. But Mitsubishi’s performance crown jewel rested with the 3000GT sports car that first launched in 1991 as a competitor to the Nissan 300ZX, Mazda RX-7, and Toyota Supra. The company’s manufacturing and business case strategy included producing a re-bodied version of the 3000GT under the Dodge Stealth label.

This edition of Auction Dilemma looks at two twins—sort of—separated at birth. A top-flight 1995 Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo is being auctioned at bringatrailer.com, and a plain-Jane 1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL is up for bid at Doug DeMuro’s carsandbids.com. What is your favorite flavor of this 25-year-old Japanese sports car? Dodge or Mitsubishi?

Finished in factory White Pearl over black leather, this multi-owner 1995 Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo was purchased new in Michigan and moved to Pennsylvania in 1996, where it remains today.  It’s offered with a clean title and no reported accidents, according to CarFax. The odometer shows just under 50,000 miles, which is an exceptional average of just 2,000 miles per year. The accompanying videos in the listing reveal a functioning and clean car.

Exterior features include projector-beam headlights, fog lights,  rear spoiler, quad exhaust tips, and a rear wiper. R/T Turbo models were equipped with a twin-turbo 3.0L V6 that was factory-rated at 320 hp and 315 lb-ft of torque. Via a 6-speed manual transmission, power is transmitted to an all-wheel-drive system turning original 18-inch alloys.  All this sounds fairly mainstream today, but it was very leading edge 25 years ago.  According to the listing, recent service work includes new brake pads, timing belt, water pump, and clutch.

Inside, bolstered leather seats are complemented with a matching dashboard and door panels. Other cabin features include a pop-up sunroof, original Infinity audio system, and center-stack gauge cluster.

This mid-tier 3000GT in SL trim is finished in Panama Green Pearl on light beige leather. Reported as a two-owner car, this Mitsubishi is offered with a clean North Carolina title and is said to have stayed within the same family since new. Carfax shows a minor 2015 accident. The approximate 41,000 miles on the odometer averages out to about 1,500 miles a year. The listing reports modest paint and interior blemishes typical with a car this age.

This 3000GT has projector-beam headlights, fog lights, a rear spoiler, and side air vents on the outside. While the 3000GT model line up included a VR-4 model with the twin turbos and AWD of the Stealth mentioned above,  SL-trim models got by with front-wheel drive spinning 16-inch alloys, powered by a normally aspirated 3.0L V6 rated initially at 223 hp and 204 lb-ft of torque. Gear changes are handled through a 5-speed manual.

As opposed to their exterior, the interior of both cars share the same design.  The Mitsubishi features include a pop-up power sunroof, original Infinity sound system, power driver’s seat with memory, and cruise control.

This Stealth R/T Turbo has high-end technology that is still relevant today. Low mileage and clean condition add to its appeal. As of this writing, the auction has one day left and a high bid of $11,250

While the Mitsubishi 3000GT is not a high-end model, its very low mileage and sleek styling could be very compelling. This auction has three days remaining and a current high bid of $3,500.
