The Audi A4 is getting a minor refresh for its 2019 model year.

Audi’s little luxury sedan is currently in its fifth generation after being revealed back in 2015 as a 2016 model year, so it’s due for a bit of a refresh. Spy photographers with AutoGuide managed to catch up with this one undergoing testing, and while it doesn’t seem all that different with the current model there are still a few differences worth noting.

The light camouflage in the front is doing its best to conceal the bulk of the updates, which admittedly aren’t a whole lot. The grille is largely the same as the outgoing model, as are the headlights which strangely don’t get the new redesign as featured on the Audi A6. It’s possible that Audi will get around to replacing those lamps on future test cars, but for now, we get a peek at the old headlights, which weren’t all that bad.

From what we can see, the largest update will happen beneath the headlights. The area that looks sort of like an uncovered speaker right next to the grille has changed significantly, becoming larger, wider, and no longer has lines that run parallel to the bumper.

There’s still the possibility of more changes to either the front or back end, but they’re not on this test model. Expect some more surprises from Audi before the year is out.

As for what’s under the hood, we expect the Audi A4 to retain the same 2.0-L turbo four-banger as found in the current model—at least in North America. In Europe, it’s possible the A4 will get the same mild hybrid technology as found on the latest A6, A7, and A8 models.

Audi already confirmed the A4 will get the EA288 Evo TDI 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine, which provides up to 204 ponies for the A4 to play with. Turbo diesels being unpopular everywhere else makes it seem unlikely a similar engine will make it across the pond, but there’s always a chance.

Expect to see more A4 test models as the year progresses.
