Outside of enthusiast circles, Audi might be most well-known for its Audi R8 supercar, the more ubiquitous Audi TT compact coupe, and its ordinary entry-level sedans and coupes. However, they used to be a brand known for making crazy cars like the legendary Quattro sports car.

Even better was the fact that the AWD Audi Quattro was a homologation car and got released to the public in order to race the off-road monster in Group B rallying. Audi is no stranger to performance and clinical precision nowadays, but it does take itself a little too seriously.

With that in mind, if Audi decided to bring back the iconic Quattro model, this is how it would look today thanks to the exclusive render from Rostislav Prokop. Let’s take a walk around the project.

This render looks great from distance thanks to its originality, although it does have its fair share of Audi TT and Audi R8 influence going on. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Shining brightly for our eyes is the combination of bold red paint and white wheels which really pop and create a retro vibe. Modern blacked-out wheels would be an injustice to this render.

The silhouette has that familiar short, sloping back and up front there are hood scoops including the front-most inlet like the rally car. At the sides, there are more air ducts to channel the classic race car’s spirit.

An aggressive lip and sleek headlights combine with the grille to offer up a modern look compared to the old car, in line with the brand's modern design philosophy.

Side-exit exhausts and all that aero suggest this car is a born-and-bred race car, especially with those awesome white wheels. In fact, we can look to 2010’s Audi Quattro concept for the Paris Motor Show which showcased a very similar design and a 400-hp Audi 5-cylinder engine under its hood.

That car seems to offer up the basis for this design, and perhaps that only adds to this render's credibility. Although most would love to see a V6 or V8 under this hood, that wouldn’t keep the purists happy.

Audi’s Quattro sounded and went well thanks to that amazing 5-cylinder engine, and the 2.5-liter in the current Audi RS3 could get a boost from 400 hp to 500 hp easily with some work.

It’s good to see some character and color return to the German premium brand in this render. All it needs are some mud flaps and auxiliary lights to really harness the power of the iconic nameplate.
