The Hoonigan team are well known for their "This vs That series," as well as Hoonicorn vs The World. As they return for 2022, the Hoonigan team has decided to bring in a new themed "This vs That" series. This first one is "This vs Plaid," where they get a brand-new Model S Plaid in to go up against a rival. In this case, the rival is Hank from Iroz Motorsport, with his insane 1,700 hp Audi R8 V10.

The Two Cars Compared

These two cars could not be any more different if they tried. The internal combustion engine of the Audi has a truly mind-blowing 1,700 hp and a DCT transmission. The power comes from a twin-turbo 5.2-liter V10 engine, and the car is all-wheel drive, weighing in at 3,700 lbs. The Tesla, meanwhile, has 1,020 hp on offer, significantly less, and is a one-speed automatic. It is also heavier than the Audi at 4,828 lbs, but thanks to its electric motor, it is all-wheel drive. These then are two very different cars, but will that extra power be too much for the Audi to handle?

We all know how fast the Model S Plaid is, but it does have a lot less power than the Audi. The cars line up for the first race, and a lot of the Hoonigan team think the R8 should easily win the races. In fact, the entire team think the R8 will win. At the start of race one, a 1,000 ft head to head, the Model S Plaid gets a brilliant launch to lead early on. But it does not take long before that extra horsepower kicks in from the Audi, and it roars into the distance.

The second race sees the Tesla get two cars to start with to even it up. This time, though, the Audi gets a better start, and it isn’t long before it goes by its electric rival. This means that This is the winner in This vs Plaid, with the Hoonigan team saying it looked like there was a bit more spice coming from the Audi. And at most, the Audi was producing 1,450 hp, not even using the full 1,700 hp. Victory donuts from the Audi incoming and a clear win for the internal combustion engine.
