See what happens when an Audi RS3 takes on a Tesla Model 3 AWD in a drag race.

We’ve been seeing a lot of the Model 3 lately, especially when it comes to drag racing. Something about instant, on-demand torque combined with all-wheel-drive can be very appealing for those that want the most on-road performance possible.

And it doesn’t get much better than the Tesla Model 3 AWD. This is the non-Performance variant of the Model 3, so its twin electric motors only produce 367 horsepower instead of the Performance’s 473 horsepower, but that still makes it a very quick car. Tesla advertises zero to sixty as taking 4.4 seconds, but Motor Trend recently found that it was actually closer to 4.0- seconds.

There are no gears to worry about as the Model 3 just asks the wheels to spin faster rather than mucking about with a transmission, and top speed is limited to 144 mph. That’s mostly to prevent the battery from melting and not because the car can’t physically go faster.

On the other side of the track is the Audi RS3. This M3 and Model 3 competitor is an excellent vehicle using the latest in gas-burning engine technology. A 2.5-L inline 5-cylinder engine provides 396 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. Zero to sixty is done in 4 seconds with a top speed of 174 mph. And in true Audi fashion, a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox provides power to all four wheels.

Crucially, the Audi RS3 weighs around 3,600 lbs while the Model 3 weighs almost 500 lbs more.

Our intrepid hosts from Throttle House are racing down a non-prepped racetrack which better simulates real-world driving conditions. Both cars are equipped with all-wheel-drive, so we don’t expect much in terms of wheel spin, and neither car has a manual transmission, so we also don’t expect a mis-shift to mar the results. This will truly come down to whichever car is the fastest.
