Chinese automaker Great Wall has posted images of the new retro-styled electric hatchback, which will be produced under the Ora sub-brand. Based on images posted on Autohome's website, the model will look very similar to the classic first-generation Volkswagen Beetle.

The manufacturer does not deny this and says that the car should evoke a feeling of nostalgia. True, even on the images, it is noticeable that the new product will be more spacious. It will become part of the Cat family, and the final name will be chosen by users of social networks, where the corresponding vote is currently taking place.

Specifications And Interior Of A New Great Wall Car

Despite the obvious resemblance to Volkswagen's Beetle, the front end of the Chinese electric car has been made in the style of another retro model from Ora called the Good Cat. The cabin is expected to feature a vintage steering wheel and vents, as well as a virtual instrument panel and a multimedia complex with a large touchscreen display.

According to preliminary data, the car will be driven by an electric motor with a capacity of 143 hp and 210 Nm. On one battery charge, it will travel up to 500 km (310 miles). The power plant will be borrowed from another model of the company - the Good Cat hatchback. It is curious that on the previous ORA novelty, the Good Cat model, you can see details that also refer to the classic Mini and Fiat 500.

The original Volkswagen Kafer was produced from 1946 to 2003. A total of 21.5 million cars were manufactured, which has become one of the most massive in production in the world. The places of production of the car were located in two dozen countries in all inhabited parts of the world and continents.

From 1997 to 2019, the New Beetle was produced with a design inspired by the classic model. However, for the last two years, there are no cars that are somehow related to the past of the legendary car in the Volkswagen range. And it does not look like it is coming back soon.

The official debut of the Ora electro-hatch will take place on April 19 at the Shanghai Auto Show.
