The Maserati GranTurismo is a stylish and luxurious Italian sports car, but there are a couple of reasons why we'd rather go for another vehicle.

The Maserati GranTurismo debuted at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show, and since then, the car has been appreciated for its stunning looks. Maserati made this vehicle to rival top-tier sports cars like the Porsche 911. This mission seemed impossible, but the GranTurismo's outstanding performance and impressive driving dynamics backed it up.

The production of the GranTurismo stopped in 2019 after Maserati decided to focus on future projects. They plan to renew the vehicle this year with changes like making it electric. The company promises that it will be an improvement over previous models.

During its 12-year run, Maserati didn't make many alterations to the GranTurismo. This became a challenge because the vehicle had trouble keeping up with the times. The car lacks many infotainment and safety features available in luxury and non-premium automobiles.

Besides being outdated, the Granturismo isn't that spacious, and it lacks cargo room. You might think this isn't a big issue because most sports cars don't offer space, but unlike other sports vehicles, the GranTurismo carries four passengers. The front seats are comfortable, but the rear seats are cramped.

Here's why you should avoid the Maserati GranTurismo.

How The Maserati GranTurismo Compares Against Its Rivals

The Maserati GranTurismo has fierce competitors, though cars like the BMW 6 Series, Aston Martin DB9, and Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class are among the few vehicles that can go head-to-head with the GranTurismo.

In terms of design, the GranTurismo has an exterior design that's not aging well. Maserati hasn't changed the design since they released it in 2007. However, some owners claim that it is a timeless design that works, and Maserati shouldn't change it, but in reality, this isn't true.

An excellent example of a vehicle with a timeless design is the Aston Martin. That's why all of them look the same. The difference is that Aston Martin modernizes and makes real changes. This idea of modernization over time keeps a car beloved and respected.

The Maserati GranTurismo's interior is elegant and sporty. The material quality is rich, and there are touches of top-notch leather. Sadly the GranTurismo's infotainment system doesn't match the luxurious interior.

When the system was new, owners appreciated it, but now it's outdated. It takes time to get used to the system because of buttons that don't always seem to do what their label says. Pairing a phone is something one should forget because it's challenging and complicated.

The Mercedes-Benz CLS class has a better interior than the GranTurismo. Its infotainment system is easy and comes with the best software. There are two 12.3-inch screens, a head-up display, and a 13-speaker Burmester stereo. What's better, there is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for those who want to pair and use their phones.

The GranTurismo has standard safety features like antilock brakes, stability and traction control, and front-seat side airbags. One might consider these features reasonable, but a car like the BMW 6 Series offers better features like parking sensors, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and auto emergency braking (AEB).

These rivals of the GranTurismo are around the same price or even cheaper than the GranTurismo but offer better features and designs.

The Maserati GranTurismo Has A High Maintenance Cost

The Maserati GranTurismo is a luxury sports vehicle with a high price when it's new, and the maintenance costs reflect that. Vehicle History owners say the GranTurismo maintenance can be around $2000 to $3000 per year. Furthermore, there are some components on the vehicle that can cost more than $9,000 to replace if they are damaged.

The only advantage the GranTurismo has is that it doesn't have many issues that stick out. But Maserati owners warn to keep a watch on the electrical system, brakes, clutch, and suspension since these mechanical components all seem weak in Maserati's least reliable vehicles.

You might skip the hefty sticker price and maintenance costs, but one thing that will make you avoid the GranTurismo is its poor gas mileage.

The car has an EPA rating of 13 mpg for the city, 21 for highway, and a combined rating of 16 mpg on premium gasoline while averaging 6.2 gallons in 100 miles. You can see how the GranTurismo consumes a lot of gas, so if you’re not prepared, it might run you dry.

All these factors make the GranTurismo depreciate quickly. However, it might be a good bargain for those who want a V8 sports car as long as they don't mind having an old infotainment system and paying high maintenance costs.
