In the almost-90 years that they've been around, Porsche has established itself as one of the main benchmarks for sports cars, and sporty cars in general. From the criminally fun Boxster and Cayman to the first-name-in-sports-cars 911, and the surprisingly capable Cayenne SUV and electric Taycan, Porsche has just about everything for everyone.

Over the last few years, some Porsche models have been subject to some pretty extensive modifications. Some have turned out good, some bad, and some are just downright awesome. With that in mind, here are 10 totally awesome, pretty heavily modified Porsches of all ages and varieties that you absolutely need to see.

10 An Absolutely Stunning RUF

Because every 911 of this vintage should look like the 935 "Moby Dick." At one point, this 1984 RSR was modified with RUF parts, which many might think is more than enough.

Then, later on, the RUF BTR-converted RSR was suddenly making 700 hp, routed through a RUF 6-speed manual transmission. All of that is nicely complemented by a red exterior, dark bronze wheels, and a bodykit reminiscent of the aforementioned winning race car.

9 911 Turbo S "Super Beast"

excellence-mag.com

When a car has something called a "Kill Mode," you know that it's not a car to be messed with. And indeed, this 2014 911 Turbo S has exactly that.

No, it doesn't commit mass murder when activated. That's simply the ECU tune for the car to run on E85. When injected with a good dose of E85, this Turbo S is good for a maniacal 1,182 hp. The aesthetic upgrades work wonders as well, such as the eye-catching grey exterior with blue details, the center-lock wheels (also blue), and the roll cage.

8 Time Attack 968

hooniverse.com

Yes, even though it might not seem like it, there's actually a 968 under all that additional bodywork and positively ridiculous wings. The turbocharged four-banger was stroked out to a possibly overkill 4.0 liters, and various other modifications ramped the power to an insane 1,500 hp.

All the engineering work that went into it seemed to be worth it, as this 968 came just 0.7 seconds short off the track record set by an A1 Grand Prix car at the 2018 Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge.

7 Emory 356 RSR

Ever since this 356 first appeared on the internet, it seemed to go completely viral. Looking at it up-close, it's definitely not hard to see why.

Dubbed the 356 RSR, this stunning sating gray 356 Coupe uses a variety of different custom-engineered components, as well as one taken from other Porsche models. How does 393 hp in a 1,900 lb car sound? Safe to assume that this is probably a hoot to drive.

6 Jon Sibal's RWB 964

When the car belongs to a comic illustrator who also does some kickass automotive renderings, you know it's gonna be good.

And indeed, Jon Sibal's 964 doesn't disappoint at all. Finished in one of the best modern factory colors, Nardo Grey, this 964 is of the more subtle RWB Narrow variety, and it looks a lot cleaner as a result. It also features the par-for-the-course Work Meister wheels and some tasteful decals to boot.

5 Bisimoto's 935 K3V

Is this the future of modified Porsches? Well, if it looks anything like this, it's definitely a bright future.

Made by legendary Porsche-and-sometimes-other-brands builder Bisimoto, this 935 replica forgoes the flat-six for an electric powertrain, pumping out a total of 636hp. It also features some pretty crazy aero, which is to be expected. All of that is complemented beautifully by the gray and pink paint scheme, and crazy aero wheels.

4 996 "911DV8"

Chevy's LS motor is slowly finding its way into just about everything nowadays, and older Porsche 911s are not excluded. This mean-looking green 996 is no exception.

Alongside the LS7 motor in the rear, which is pumping out over 400 horsepower, there is also an upgraded interior with new seats and a new steering wheel. The green paint finish is named Axalta Green, the body kit is bespoke, and the rims have a seven-inch dish.

3 Guntherwerks 400R

At the top of the modified Porsche hierarchy is stuff like the Guntherwerks 400R. These are based on older 911 models, but they've had so much internal surgery that they're pretty much new cars.

The 400R is no exception. It may look like your typical 993, just slightly wider, but that body is completely new and almost entirely composed of carbon fiber. The engine is still air-cooled like the original, but you get 400 hp in a car weighing around 2600 lbs. The first reviews for this car were nothing but praise, and it's easy to see why.

2 Singer 911 DLS

themanual.com

Ever since Californian company Singer first cropped up a few years ago, enthusiasts, particularly of the classic Porsche 911 kind, have gone crazy over their modified and modernized classic 911s.

motor1.com

The DLS, standing for Dynamics and Lightweighting Study, has been described as pretty much everyone who has seen it as "perfection." From the gorgeous modernized but authentic body, to the brilliant Williams-engineered 500 hp air-cooled flat-six, we're still wondering why Singer won't put it into production.

1 RWB Rotana

workwheels.com

It doesn't get any crazier or more over the top than Nakai-san and his RWB modified Porsches. There's no doubt in our minds that the Rotana is the absolute craziest.

drivetribe.net

The Rotana is crazy no matter which way you look at it. The wheels (12.5 inches wide!), the tires (345 section!), the turbocharged engine that's mostly visible due to the lack of a rear bumper, and of course, the wing. The best part? This is Nakai-san's personal race car that he uses in the Idlers race series.

Even though a lot of people tend to preserve their 911s, particularly if they are older models that are shooting up in value seemingly every day, some owners go the extra mile. These were just some examples of awesome modified Porsches, and a showcase of how modifications can range from the sublime to the ridiculous. In the best possible way.
