Check out the dash-cam footage of the BAC Mono breaking the Goodwood Hillclimb record.

It’s been a few weeks since the Goodwood Festival of Speed wrapped up, but we’re still getting some amazing footage from the cars that took part in the Supercar Shootout.

The Shootout was where the best of the best, the creme de la creme of cars competed to see which could make it all the way to the top of Goodwood the fastest. This is where you’ll find Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and McLarens duking it out for speed supremacy.

However, it’s also where you’ll find some lesser-known brands, such as Briggs Automotive Company. Based in Liverpool, BAC fielded their tiny Mono supercar against automotive giants. While rumbling engines beside the Mono were all putting out anywhere from 600 to over 1,000 hp, the Mono was squealing its tires with a mere 305 hp from its naturally aspirated 2.5-L 4-cylinder engine.

But the Mono has one enormous advantage over its much larger competitors: it weighs less than half as much as they do. Thanks to this sports car’s lack of roof, windshield, or more than one seat, the Mono weighs in at 1278 lbs. Zero to sixty is done in just 2.8 seconds, and its ability to fly through corners can only be described as sublime.

Veteran race car driver Anthony Reid piloted the Mono to the top of Goodwood hill in a record-breaking 49.13 seconds, beating the previous record holder by 0.14 seconds. That previous record was set in 2014 by Nissan driver Jann Mardenborough in the GT-R supercar.

The three next runners-up at this year’s Goodwood were the Porsche GT2 RS (the former Nurburgring record holder until the Aventador SVJ came along) with 50.38 seconds, the Ford GT with 51.63 seconds, and the Aston Martin Vulcan with 51.66 seconds.

“To go up against some of the very best supercars and drivers around this year and win so convincingly feels fantastic – and the new record is just the icing on the cake,” said Reid after his record-breaking run. “I know the Hillclimb very, very well but it’s always different and remains a challenging drive – there are lots of undulations and always so much to think about – but Mono is so accessible and agile that it just lapped up the challenge all week.”

You can get your own BAC Mono for the low price of $165,000, not including import fees. But hey--at least it’s road-legal.
