10 Chevrolet Greenbrier Rampside: Obscure But Kickass

via GMAuthority

Never heard of it? Well, the Greenbrier trucks and vans came riding on the underpinnings of the less-than-stellar Chevrolet Corvair, although in retrospect, there was nothing wrong with the Corvair either.

via Corvair.org

The Greenbrier Rampside trucks had a side tailgate and looked so adorable, we want to pick one up and put it on a shelf for all to see. Or maybe hug it tight and never let it go. Despite the practicality of the truck, these never caught on and only 20,000 were made in four years.

9 Chevrolet LUV: Inspires Affection

via GMAuthority

The Chevy LUV, which was pronounced “love”, was a rebadged Isuzu Faster, at the time when GM and Isuzu seemed to be great rebadging pals. It was a GM-badged light pickup, aimed at people who liked Japanese precision but wanted a ‘Murican truck.

It stood at par with the Ford Courier and some 400,000 of these were sold in its lifetime, till 1982 saw it replaced by the S-10 pickups. The reason for its sudden death was the weak and outdated engine, although the Isuzu Faster survived all the way till 2002.

8 Chevrolet COPO Camaro: A Diamond Amidst Crystals

via Mecum

Yep, in comes the Camaro. And not just a Camaro, the legendary COPO/Yenko Camaros, made specifically at the behest of savvy Chevy dealers like Don Yenko who got Chevy to put in the most powerful engine it had in a normal Camaro.

via Hagerty

Many of these COPO Camaros look no different than a normal Camaro for their time, which is why, if you look hard enough, you can find one for cheap. Of course, a mint one will cost loads of money but now and then, a barn-find Camaro turns out to be a COPO, and the buyer gets maximum thrills for minimum spend.

7 Chevrolet Monte Carlo: As Badass As A V8 Can Get

via Mecum

There’s not a lot not to love about the 1970-1972 Monte Carlo. It came with Chevy’s signature Coke bottle styling, a decent NASCAR legacy, and a solid V8 under the hood. They were stylish and powerful and as much muscle as were the Camaros of the time.

via Mecum

The surviving Monte Carlos of that era today is usually the Monte Carlo SS that carried 5.0-liter V8s, and there are plenty of SS 454s up for bargain as well. The price usually ranges from $10,000 to $20,000, the latter being the SS 454.

6 Chevrolet 3100: Post-War Classiness

via Hagerty

Want a pickup truck that was America’s darling and bestseller way before the Ford F-series overtook it? The Chevy 3100, part of GM’s Advance Design series was launched in 1947 with far better styling and more durability than the pre-war models.

They lasted till 1955 post which the Task Force series of pickup trucks replaced them, and the 1955 model was one of the best looking of them all. The 3.4-liter V8 chugged out 145 horses, and its elderly vintage status ensures you get it on the classic truck market for a reasonable amount.

5 Chevy El Camino: When Cool Marries Hot

via YouTube

The El Camino may not have had too many takers for its time, but today, a mint condition one at an auction usually fetches outrageous prices. Why then have we listed it for cheap? A 1975 model still can be had for an affordable amount, lying somewhere between $10,000 and $15,000.

Looks for the El Camino online, or at barn finds. Don’t try to find one with a lineage or at auctions, that’s where the prices go up. To have a car that’s both car and truck, and rides on a wagon chassis is pretty cool, especially if it’s a Chevy El Camino.

4 Chevrolet Nova: Affordable And Aspirational

via Mecum

The Chevrolet Nova came out in 1962, to counter the mass-success of the Ford Falcon. It was cheap and came to the market from the drawing board pretty quick, and stuck to conventional automobile design and engineering for maximum impact on sales.

Then came the Chevy Nova SS, and it challenged the most muscled muscle cars with its performance. Plenty of them were made, plenty were sold, and still enough exist to make it a cheap classic. The Chevy Nova is still a badass buy and can give any classic muscle car a run for its money.

3 Chevrolet Impala: One Strong Buck

via Mecum

Not all Impalas come cheap. For example, if you try and look for the 1961 model that came fitted with a 6.7-liter V8, you are likely to be quoted an outrageous price. Why, because only 142 of these were made, making them a rarity.

via Mecum

But models from 1965 to 1968 can be had for less than $20,000, even in convertible form, and with that acclaimed SS badging. The reason for these models being cheap is that they were rather popular back in the day, and once you have seen what Baby can do in Supernatural, you know this is one badass Chevy classic!

2 Chevrolet Camaro: Popularity Begets Affordability

via Mecum

If we can list the COPO Camaro as one of the Chevy classics that can be had for cheap, mostly because the seller may not know its true value, we can certainly dig up a plain ‘ol Camaro for cheap as well. Although, there was or is nothing plain about the Camaro.

To find a Camaro in the ballpark of $10,000, look for a late ‘70s model because it's in the ‘70s when the Camaro sometime even outsold the Mustang! So many were made and many were sold and a lot of those still survive today, making them cool and badass classics from Chevy that can be had for cheap.

1 Chevrolet Chevelle Laguna: Underrated & Undersold

via CurbsideClassic

Big, bold, and beautiful, the Chevelle Laguna was one of the most badass cars to come out of the Chevrolet stable in the malaise era, lasting 1973 to 1976. The Laguna was the top trim of the Chevelle and came with many interior refinements.

The V8s jetted as much as they could amidst the new emission regulations that required cars to bear catalytic convertors. At the time, the Chevelle Laguna even managed to make a mark in NASCAR with Cale Yarborough winning two Winston Cup championships in his Laguna. But by 1976, the Laguna was axed. Look hard enough and one of these can be yours for less than $10,000.
