There are only three letters that matter in this world according to Nick Murray from barnfinds.com. GTO. Up for grabs is an all-original classic 1966 Pontiac GTO with only 26,768 original miles. You can see the GTO on eBay here where at the time of writing this article the bid is at a cool $26,500.

The History Of The Pontiac GTO

The GTO badge entered the market in 1964 as an option on the Pontiac Tempest. In 1966 Pontiac execs, including infamous automotive executive John Delorean, decided to make the GTO its own separate model rather than an option package. This vehicle is often credited as being the first true muscle car and with 96,946 units sold it was also a very popular muscle car. The name GTO was an homage of sorts to the Ferrari 250 GTO and as Nick tells us, was Pontiac's attempt to appeal to a younger and more youthful demographic. The vehicle did 0-60 in 6.5 seconds, which is an amazing feat in 1966, and earned it nicknames like "the goat" and "the great one", both clever plays on its name.

The interior and exterior of this GTO look great for a car that is over half a century old. The "Fontaine" blue paint is in immaculate condition and the buyer says it is brilliant and smooth. The interior is all original with no rusted floor pans or cracked upholstery. The dash is all intact and the carpeting is still in great shape. The seller tells us that the car is 100% solid with no rot or signs of structural damage. Also, the 389 cubic-inch engine and the transmission are all numbers matching. In order to get ready for sale, Nick reports that the car offers a rebuilt transmission, new water pump, radiator, thermostat, battery, and fuel pump. It also comes with the original owner's manual.

Nick also tells us that the car was in absolutely ideal conditions, in terms of storage and maintenance, for it to remain in this mint condition. The overall condition is beyond impressive for being such an original example. This car belongs in a place such as the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles as it rightfully earned its spot as one of the greatest muscle cars ever to go into production. We hope the new owner will share more of this car.
