The Bentley Bentayga, one of the British auto manufacturer's most popular models, is back for 2022. It will draw inspiration from previous Bentayga models, as well as other Bentley vehicles. While changes will not be dramatic, several aspects of the vehicle will be updated and improved to become more comfortable, practical, effective, and efficient.

Although 2022 is still somewhat far from the present, and not all the details of the vehicle have been revealed yet, enough information has circulated to give a general idea of what the public can expect. Read on to find out what has thus far been revealed regarding the 2022 Bentley Bentayga.

Predecessor Variants

Other models of the Bentayga have been previously released, each with its own variants, and from these, the 2022 model will draw design cues and inspiration. The Bentayga Speed, for example, has specialized detail and houses a W12 engine. The interior of the cabin also has detailed handcrafting. Sadly, this model was absent from quite a few markets across the globe. The Bentayga V8 was designed to balance and combine all of Bentayga's best features. It has a distinctive exterior, a luxurious and comfortable interior, advanced technology, and ideal performance.

The Bentayga Hybrid, manufactured in a carbon-neutral workshop, is a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) that promotes how advanced it is. Its featured technology is progressive enough to balance performance, luxury, and efficiency without having to sacrifice any essential features. This model can be found in the American, Canadian, Chinese, and Puerto Rican markets. All of the aforementioned were well-received enough that Bentley intends to use this as inspiration for their 2022 Bentayga model.

Potential Stats & Specs

While not final yet, there are potential stats and specs available for the 2022 Bentley Bentayga that are subject to change. Testing has begun, and two things confirmed to be part of the new model are more luxury for the cabin and an overall updated design.

Fuel efficiency will be improved on the drivetrain, and the engine featured will be a V8 for cheaper models and W12 for more expensive models. The W12 puts out 600 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque, using an eight-speed automatic transmission. By comparison, the V8 engine puts out 542 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque, and it uses the same transmission as the W12 engine will. Further, all-wheel-drive will come standard.

While the exterior will get a remodel, the changes will not be distinct or significant, but rather subtle and discreet. Even the grille and air intakes will remain untouched. The windshield will be more panoramic, the hood sidewalls more embossed, and coarse mesh on the ventilation ducts.

Chrome featured on the Bentayga will be minimal, though the side windows will be plated in chrome. However, both front and rear bumpers will be redesigned, and off-road capabilities will be largely improved, thanks to both air suspension and a new terrain setting that features multiple modes.

With regards to technology, the updated infotainment system showcases Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Wi-Fi hotspot, and a driver-assistance system featuring active cruise, night vision, and lane-keeping assist, to say the least. The V8-engine-powered base model is predicted to cost $165,000; its W12 counterpart starts at $267,000.

Long Wheelbase

The most notable feature of the 2022 Bentley Bentayga so far is its long wheelbase. The prototype that has been seen features this wheelbase, and speculation claims it may be officially referred to as the “Bentayga Extended Wheelbase.” That said, it has not yet been confirmed that all markets will receive this long-wheelbase version, such as the United States. This feature is more common in markets like China, where owners opt to ride in the back instead of in the driver's seat.

In addition to the longer wheelbase, the prototype also features massive rear doors. The longer side doors the model features also support the theory of a longer wheelbase, which also helps corroborate the expectation of a more luxurious interior. After all, if the wheelbase is longer, then there's more room in the interior for luxury. This new model is expected to arrive in late 2021, though, as mentioned before, different markets may receive different versions of the Bentayga (i.e.: longer or shorter wheelbase).

Luxury Power-Up

The 2022 Bentley Bentayga will receive both a fancier interior and a stronger engine. It seems that the rear of this model is slated to only feature two larger reclining seats in the rear. The W12 engine will also be a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter version of the engine, previously only exclusive to the Speed variant.

The top speed is predicted to be 190 MPH, and this vehicle is also expected to be heavier than the Speed variant. And because this extra weight will not detract from its speed capabilities, the 2022 Bentley Bentayga may very well be the fastest long-wheelbase luxury SUV on Earth upon its arrival in late 2021.
