Meet The Contenders Of This Drag Race

Mat Watson first lists out all the contenders as he sits in a Jeep Cherokee Trackhawk. Next to him are a Bentley Continental GTC Speed convertible, an Audi RS5, and a BMW M2 Competition. The cars look thrilling if rather eclectic all with rather differing purposes.

The Trackhawk boasts a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 for 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Bentley GT boasts a 6.0-liter twin-turbo W-12 for 660 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. Surprisingly, both the cars weigh almost the same at around 5,200+ lbs.

The Audi RS5’s 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 sounds almost like a joke with 450 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque but weighs in lighter at less than 3,900 lbs. The cheapest car of the competition is the BMW M2, which offers a 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight-6 with 410 horsepower and 405 lb-ft torque. While the rest of the cars are four-wheel drives mated to 8-speed ATs, this is the only rear-wheel drive with a 7-speed DCT. It’s also the lightest car at less than 3,500 lbs.

Before the drag race, the cars rev their engines in typical carwow fashion.

It’s the Bentley Continental GTC Speed that won the drag race, fair and square, getting to the quarter-mile in 11.7 seconds. Both the Audi RS5 and Jeep Cherokee Trackhawk took 12 seconds. The BMW M2, the cheapest of the lot, meandered in at 12.6 seconds.

In the ½-mile race, the Bentley won as well. In a rolling race from 30 MPH, the Bentley, Audi and the BMW beat the Trackhawk. In the next rolling race in third gear, the Jeep kept up with the Audi and BMW. However, the Bentley surged ahead again.

In a 100 MPH brake test, the Audi RS5 stopped the quickest, followed by the BMW M2 and then the Bentley. Meanwhile, in the Jeep Cherokee Trackhawk, Watson stopped somewhere in the next county.
