Sedans have been around for as long as most motorists can remember. They tend to be the best family cars available on the market. Even if they have taken a backseat to SUVs the last few years, thanks to their ever-improving gas mileage and safety ratings, sedans have never really fallen out of favor. As a result, automakers worldwide have focused their resources on manufacturing the best sedans.

American sedans came back in full force in 2020. Highly powered Cadillacs and Dodges have shaken up the entire market, and gave potential buyers an alternative to German sedans. The sedans released in 2020 sure are not the ugliest American cars ever made.

10 Buick Regal

Buick is one of those American carmakers that tends to keep a low profile. Unlike the most prominent Dodge, Chevy, or Ford, Buick has not released an outstanding vehicle that actually made history since the Grand National and GNX. That being said, Buick never lost the plot unlike Mercury or Pontiac.

There are multiple reasons why the Buick Regal will be missed. Though the $40,000 mid-size sedan received some mixed reviews, its GS trim comes with a quite powerful 3.6L V6 that develops 310hp. Sadly, Buick decided to retire the Regal. Though the Regal will not be produced for 2021, it will still be possible to find some 2020 models at a decent price.

9 Ford Fusion

Over the last ten years, Ford has drastically improved its sedans. Both the Taurus SHO and the Fusion inherited some features that are usually reserved to top-line American sedans. Though Ford sedans look very much like typical American cars, they have adopted some more international features, which makes them attractive abroad, unlike previous Ford sedans.

The Fusion comes in three different models, including one with a hybrid engine. With a suggested MSRP that ranges between $23,170 to $35,000, the Ford mid-size sedan is equipped with an economical 2.5L 4-cylinder at best. With a power output of 245hp, the Fusion is not the fastest sedans out there, but it sure makes up for it with great gas mileage and high safety ratings.

8 Tesla Model 3

Tesla is one of the most disruptive domestic car companies. Starting with absolutely no car manufacturing experience, Tesla created some of the most stylish fully electric cars available on the market. Though it is unclear whether Tesla is a vertically integrated car company that got involved in space exploration or vice versa, what is sure is that it has forced other companies to re-think their position in the market.

The mid-range all-electric Tesla sedan is a decent-looking car that surprisingly costs as much as gasoline-powered vehicle of the same caliber. The Model 3 has a range of at most 353 miles. As far as power is concerned, the Model 3 produces 258hp which is perfect for a car that size.

7 Chrysler 300

Chrysler's 300 has always been a decently designed and powered sedan. However, the more recent models are truly showing that the company is capable of manufacturing some seriously sleek vehicles. The 2020 Chrysler 300 eclipsed almost every other Chrysler car.

Unfortunately, 2020 did not see the introduction of a 300 SRT-8. Even more disappointing, Chrysler did not deem it necessary to develop a 300 Hellcat. Despite these somewhat disappointing news, the 300 is offered in a variety of trims that include a 3.6L V6 that creates 292hp and the well-known 5.7L V8 that was re-engineered to produce 363hp.

6 Cadillac CT5

Over the last couple of years, Cadillac has taken a very different approach. Instead of producing sluggish boats that cost an arm and a leg, the company decided to produce more powerful vehicles... that still cost an arm and a leg. However, it is fair to say that Cadillac now produces cars that directly rival some of the most luxurious German cars.

The CT5 is quite an interesting Cadillac. It is far from being your typical Cadillac. In order to keep its MSRP fairly low, the automaker sacrificed some features that are commonly found on Cadillac vehicles. Moreover, the smallest engine that comes with the CT5 is a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine capable of producing 237hp.

5 Buick LaCrosse

Buick manufactured some increasingly boring cars from the early 2000s until recently. The cars were not necessarily attractive. They were designed in ways that would attract people in their 60s and up. As a result, the company gave its most popular vehicles much needed face lifts.

The 2015 LaCrosse was a real snooze fest. It had boring aesthetics and engines as powerful as an electric shaver. Buick went all out in 2020 by offering a sedan that is both pretty and powerful. Thanks to a turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder engine producing 237hp, the LaCrosse is very likely to be a huge success in the Chinese market where it will be marketed. The LaCrosse was indeed discontinued for the American market.

4 Cadillac CT6-V

As muscle sedans gained more and more traction, Cadillac quickly noticed a huge gap in the market. Though most muscle sedans are powerful, they lack the luxury aspect of a $70,000 car. As a result, Cadillac came out with some extremely powerful cars that are as luxurious as top-line German sedans.

The CT6-V is among the most insane sports sedans on the market in 2020. Sadly, the CT6-V is among the vehicles that will not be renewed in 2021. Despite being equipped with a twin-turbocharged 4.2L V8, the 550hp was not enough to make the CT6-V a best-seller. However, since the car is being discontinued, buying a 2020 CT6-V may end up being a great investment on the long run.

3 Dodge Charger Hellcat

Dodge has completely transformed the domestic sedan market. Previously dominated by German sports sedans, the market is now being shifted once again towards domestically produced cars such as the Dodge Charger. Despite receiving a very cold welcome back in 2005, the Charger can now be considered as a real savior.

The Charger Hellcat sure is not one of those American sedans people would not take for free. In fact, the Hellcat is by far the best American sports sedan available in 2020. The 6.2L Hemi V8 develops an outstanding 717hp, which is on par with some of the supercars currently available on the market.

2 Tesla Model S

When Tesla first released its Model S, people throughout California gave up their gas-guzzling Volvos and wannabe environmentally friendly Priuses. The electric car had just about anything and everything an environmentally concerned car fan could ask for. Though critics backed up by the oil lobby have done their best to discredit Tesla, the car was and still is an epic success.

The top-line Tesla was back again in 2020 with its sleek design and extremely modern interior. The Model S is one of the few American cars that shows signs of innovations within the domestic automotive industry. With a top range of 402 miles, the Model S is a great car to drive around California. Moreover, the Model S produces at best 778hp and 841lb-ft of torque.

1 Lincoln Continental

Lincoln has always been "the other luxurious domestic automaker." Though it never reached Cadillac's notoriety, Lincoln produced some extremely fancy cars. Unlike Cadillac, Lincoln decided to stick to its guns by putting luxury over power. When looking at the 2020 Continental, it is safe to say that this Lincoln is a seriously posh car.

The Continental 80th Anniversary Coach Door Edition is by far one of the coolest thing seen this year on an American car. With its 3.7L V6 cranking out 400hp, the Continental is by definition a luxurious American sedan. Though not as powerful as some Cadillacs recently released, the Continental is an exquisite executive car.
