Over the past few decades, the pickup truck market changed quite drastically. When they first appeared, they were simple, basic, honest workhorses designed to haul some loads and maybe take the family on a vacation, though not in the utmost of comfort and luxury.

Fast-forward to the present day, and things are radically different. There's now a pickup truck for just about anyone, and most notably for off-road enthusiasts. Since the F-150 Raptor appeared, it has become one of Ford's most lucrative products and has expanded beyond the F-150.

The Ranger Raptor is the first non-F150 model to wear the Raptor name. Introduced back in 2018, it's meant as a more affordable, compact, and slightly less crazy alternative to its bigger brother, the F-150 Raptor.

Unfortunately, this Raptor takes a very different approach to the engine. It's powered by a 210-hp 2.0-liter turbo diesel 4-cylinder mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Despite not being as powerful, however, it still has all the off-road trinkets from its bigger sibling. It's just a shame that it's not available on the US market...

6 F-150 SVT Raptor (First Generation)

The first-generation Raptor, marketed under the SVT performance brand at the time, came along in 2010. Immediately, it caused waves everywhere due to the whole concept of the truck. Initially, it was powered by a 5.4-liter Modular V8 engine, but that was upgraded to a 6.2 liter V8 called "Boss."

As well as giving it an EPA rating of 11/16 MPG, the Boss V8 had 411 hp and 430 lb/ft of torque. Although it received praise left, right, and center for its off-road capabilities, it was also absolutely slandered for its on-road behavior and handling - or lack thereof.

It was also an extreme gas guzzler, and it didn't have the best interior quality either. One good thing about this generation of Raptor is that it's a definite investment. It has been off the market for around 6 years now, and it has barely depreciated from its MSRP from back when it was new.

5 Hennessey VelociRaptor 600

When it comes to modified Ford Raptors, Hennessey never fails to impress. And the VelociRaptor 600 is no exception. As well as the obvious exterior enhancements and customization, the VelociRaptor 600, as the name might imply, gets a bump up to 600 hp from the 3.5 EcoBoost V6 engine under the hood.

It also puts down 622 lb/ft of torque, and all that means it's almost as fast to 60 mph as a Porsche Carrera GT. The difference being, the 600 can do that sprint to 60 no matter where it is.

4 Shelby Raptor (First Generation)

It took Shelby American a surprising amount of time to get to work on the first-generation Raptor, but it was soon discovered that it was definitely worth the wait.

The package upgraded the 6.2 V8 lump under the hood from 411 hp to an impressive 575, by way of a 2.9 liter Whipple supercharger. The on-road mannerisms of the Raptor weren't improved with this pack, but the presence of Shelby logos definitely was, apparently.

3 F-150 Raptor (Second Generation)

Ever since the current generation Raptor first came out in 2017, it too has received praise just about everywhere. It's even better at off-roading than its predecessor, but it irons out all the issues of the first generation version on top of that. Even though it uses "only" a V6 engine, it's a twin-turbo V6 with 450 hp, allowing this truck to reach 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds. It can also do things off-road that other vehicles would be way too scared to.

This is apparently the only vehicle in history that has been designed to actually take a beating after a jump. It was actually built from the factory to land a jump without any excessive damage. And if the previous generation is anything to go by, this Raptor will also most likely be an investment.

2 Hennessey VelociRaptor V8

The latest Raptor is absolutely fantastic, but for those who swore by the first generation, will still love to talk about (at great length) how the new Raptor needs a V8. If you're part of this group, don't worry, Hennessey Performance comes to the rescue once again.

henesseyperformance.com

The EcoBoost V6 found in the stock Raptor was removed, and a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 took its place. How does 758 hp at the crank sound to you? And how could Hennessey possibly top this insanity?

Well, the only way to top insanity is with even more insanity, of course. In this case, that means taking a Raptor already tuned to make 600 hp... and adding two more wheels. Two more driven wheels, that is.

henesseyperformance.com

The VelociRaptor 6x6 was an extremely limited run of trucks, and their total price was over $300,000 a pop. That's a lot of money to pay on a Ford pickup, but you can go literally anywhere you want.

Those are all the Ford pickup trucks that wear the Raptor name ranked, including modified ones. A new Raptor, based on the recently revealed F-150, has already been confirmed, and it's rumored to use the supercharged V8 from the new Shelby GT500. If that happens, and if the off-road capabilities are (somehow) improved from the current generation, then the Ram Rebel TRX has something to worry about, to say the least.
