In 2015, engineers at Dodge were tasked to create one of the most powerful engines ever made, with internals and a bullet-proof block that could easily take horsepower figures north of 700 hp. This resulted in a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine rated at 707 hp and 650 lb-ft of peak torque. The engine was so ferocious and power dense that engineers decided to call it the Hellcat, taking inspiration from the Grumman F6F Hellcat fighter plane. And, the rest is history. Today, the Hellcat is Dodge's prized possession and one of the most revered power plants with figures pushing way into the 4-figure mark with mods.

The Hellcat engine became so popular that Dodge has dropped it in various models across its portfolio. Sadly, the engine's future is not foolproof. Today, we take a look at them in an attempt to rank the best Hellcats ever made:

The Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat is not your average mid-size SUV. Under that hood is a 6.2-liter Hemi Hellcat V-8 engine that punches out 710 hp and 645 lb-ft – enough to reverse Earth's rotation. In every essence, the Dodge Durango SRT is a muscle car masquerading as an SUV with a 60 mph sprint time of just 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 180 mph! Other goodies include adaptive suspension, Brembo brakes, 20-inch wheels, and aerodynamic changes.

Boffins at Dodge woke up one day and figured it was a good idea to offer a Ram pickup truck with the big, bad 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine. And we can't thank them enough for that. The Ram 1500 TRX is a worthy rival to Ford's F150 Raptor with 702 hp helping it reach 60 mph in 4.5 seconds flat. Yes, this specific Hellcat engine in the Ram TRX makes the least power due to a restrictive air intake setup. Still, a pickup truck that is as fast as most sports cars out there seems like an interesting proposition.

A luxury barge of an SUV with a fire-breathing Hellcat V8 under the hood is an absurd idea. But Jeep didn't think so. Meet the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, one of the fastest SUVs ever to grace the earth. The 6.2-liter V8 develops a colossal 707 hp helping this 5400 lbs land yacht to reach 60 mph from a standstill in a supercar-shaming 3.5 seconds! To keep this lunacy in control, the Trackhawk also gets

Brembo brakes, Bilstein suspension, and a trick 4X4 system.

As you know, the Charger and Challenger are synonymous with the Hellcat engine. The Charger SRT Hellcat is one of the first models to get a 6.2-liter engine. It is a 4-door practical sedan with aggressive looks and an even aggressive engine to back those looks. It is an angry sedan that develops 717 hp, absolutely overkill for a sedan, but we genuinely don't mind it.

The Challenger SRT Hellcat is the muscle car that introduced us to the Hellcat engines in the first place back in 2015. The world paused and took note of this muscle car thanks to the 707 hp 6.2-liter V8 supercharged engine pushing out supercar levels of performance from this humble American muscle car. To keep things competitive, Dodge has bumped the output of the Hellcat engine up to 717 hp and is also now offering three pedals for the 2023 Challenger SRT Hellcat!

A Jeep Wrangler with an open-top, ready for the Dakar, with over 700 hp on tap from the Hellcat V8 is what the Trailcat is if you ask us. What Jeep did is take one of the best off-roaders in the world and give it an insane amount of power and kit like a 6-speed manual transmission, 39.5-inch BF Goodrich Krawler T/A tires, Fox suspension with a 2-inch lift, resulting in a concept that we don't need, but obviously want.

In brief, the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye is for those who feel the standard Challenger SRT is not evil enough. Peak power and torque are rated at 797 hp and 707 lb-ft making this family sedan more powerful than most modern Ferraris out there. The crazy bit, however, is that these figures are sent to just the rear wheels. 0-60 mph comes up in 3.6 seconds with a top whack of 203 mph. Other changes include a sinister wide body, wider track, wider tires, and dedicated launch control.

Well, the infamous Redeye treatment debuted with the Dodge Challenger SRT, and boy it was fast. The same figures as the Charger Redeye (797 hp and 707 lb-ft), but it was faster at 3.4 seconds to 60 mph, and a quarter-mile time of 10.8 seconds along with a top speed of 203 mph. You get the essential Redeye bits such as the wide body, bigger brakes, wider rubber, track, and Bilstein adaptive suspension to make it track-worthy.

2 Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock

The Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock is when things got seriously out of hand with the 6.2-liter V8 hellcat engine. Here, it broke the 800-hp barrier with 807-hp on pump gas! The Super Stock is a drag-strip-ready muscle car with lightweight wheels and drag radials. It took the numbers so seriously that it completed the standstill to 60 mph in 3.25 seconds. The Quarter mile time is 10.5 seconds while the top speed is limited to 168 mph.

1 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon

Well, whoever decided to call this the Demon deserves an award. There is no other name that does justice to this absolute lunacy that is designed to obliterate the drag strip. With the special ECU and race fuel, the Challenger SRT Demon developed an insane 840 hp and 717 lb-ft and a still bonkers 808 hp on normal pump gas. We'll let the numbers speak. Zero to 60 mph in a G-force defying 2.3 seconds and a quarter mile time of 9.65 seconds at 140 mph. The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is definitely something diablo himself would drive.
