You would be forgiven if you said you hadn’t heard of Bizzarrini. The company was founded in 1964 by former Alfa Romeo and Ferrari engineer Giotto Bizzarrini, and they built a small number of advanced sports cars before they disappeared in 1969. Pegasus Brands acquired the rights to the names in 2020, and lead by former Aston Martin executives they announced their new rival series, which would revive the 5300 GT to developed 24 GT Revival Corsa models. The company has now announced further details on the car and that deliveries will start to take place in early 2022.

The 5300 GT won its class in the 1965 edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours, and this is what the company is aiming to replicate. Christopher Sheppard, CEO of Bizzarrini says “The same techniques and processes will be adapted by our engineers to produce authentic masterpieces of the original car that raced and won Le Mans in 1965. The historical review and reverse engineering process has been meticulous to ensure absolute authenticity to the original car designed and signed off by Giotto Bizzarrini.”

The Revival Corsa Will Be As Authentic As Possible

There were 133 original 5300 GTs built, and each of the new examples are to be hand-built as close to the original specification as possible. Bizzarrini is dismantling an original 5300 GT in their collection to catalogue every component and scan them against the original drawings, to allow for as authentic a design as possible while complying with modern safety and building standards.

This is all about keeping the car traditional at heart, with the car designed to be a collector's item but also a true drivers car. The car will be designed to meet FIA standards, and be powered by a period-specific 5300 cubic inch V8 engine. Mated with Weber 45 DCOE carburettors, the Revival Corsa will be developed between 400 and 480 hp.

The Le Mans Spirit Will Be Captured As Fully As Possible By Bizzarrini

To further capture the Le Mans spirit, the reproduction examples will have specific details inspired by chassis 0222 that won its class at Le Mans back in 1965, and Bizzarrini says that there is scope for each example to be tailored to their owner's precise specification.

The functional dashboard of the 5300 GT with its bank of Duckbill toggle switches will be recreated, to give the interior a real heritage vibe. Original specification gold wheels and Dunlop tyres, enhanced interior trim and updated safety equipment will make the Revival Corsa a modern classic. The first customer deliveries for this incredible machine are set to take place in February 2022. When it comes to model revivals and continuation examples, the 5300 GT Revival Corsa could become king of the hill.
