BMW's next generation of pure electric mobility is no longer a vision. The German premium carmaker's Vision iNEXT is taking an evolutionary step forward as it will be finally churned into a production build in 2021 as the new BMW iX. The next-gen electric crossover goes beyond mobility, as it blends technology and design to offer a new level of electric driving pleasure.
New Scable iX Platform With 5th-Gen eDrive Technology
The new BMW iX is underpinned by a new, modular, scalable architecture (iX technology platform) that will also underpin future BMW Group EVs. This new platform is complemented by the fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology, with power units delivering around 500 hp of output for a 0-62 mph sprint time of under 5.0 seconds. As for range, the iX can go as far as 300 miles.
Massive Kidney Grilles Similar To 2021 BMW M3, M4
In terms of looks, the new BMW iX boasts muscular looks with powerful proportions. Similar in size to the X5, the new iX has a face that's marked by the massive kidney grilles, making it look as repulsive as the new M3 and M4. This grille have no cooling purpose; it serves as an intelligence panel that integrates a camera, radar, and other sensors.
The kidney grilles are flanked by slim LED headlights, or the optional BMW Laserlight. They lead to a pronounced three-dimensional hood, complemented by frameless windows, doors with integrated flush handles, black body edging, as well as a minimalist rear end and slim tail lights.
High-Tech Yet People-Focused Interior
Whereas most cars have interiors where technology is the highlight, the cabin of the new iX focuses on its occupants. This led to a modern, minimalist interior with a spacious feel that functions around catering to the needs of its occupants. In fact, displays and controls are stripped down to essentials.
Drivers get to play with a hexagonally shaped steering wheel, a rocker gear switch, and a freestanding BMW Curved Display. The interior also features new front seats, a lounge-style rear seating, BMW Head-Up Display with frameless projector integration, LED interior lighting, as well as Pioneering Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System with 4D Audio.
