At this point, there's hardly a need for an introduction to the iX. As simple as this name may be, it immediately connects you to BMW's flagship SUV. Why? Well, it's because the brand stepped up its EV game with this luxurious ride and caused quite some exciting aesthetic-related controversy.

The iX arrived as the first all-electric SUV in the entire BMW offerings, following the Vision iNext concept we've gotten a chance to see in 2018. Since the big announcement, we just knew this vehicle would be a special snowflake, and BMW didn't disappoint. The BMW iX SUV is every bit compelling with its exceptional performance, driving range, charging times, and craftsmanship. Indeed, not every gearhead will like its exterior styling, but no one will be able to dispute the BMW iX's build quality and performance.

As you probably know already, we've written a lot about this stunning SUV since its introduction. But if you're wondering what's our opinion on its best features, this new review will answer your question.

The Two Electric Motors Of The BMW iX

For 2023, BMW introduced a very special trim to spice up the otherwise "boring" 2022 base iX model. Jokes aside, hardly anyone would call the BMW iX xDrive50 an underpowered standard trim considering the 516 horsepower and 564 lb-ft of torque power output. Still, we can't say we're ready to argue with the new BMW iX M60 that delivers 610 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque. It's an introduction worthy of the M badge.

All this considered, it comes down to the fact that we appreciate the all-electric powertrain that BMW developed and put into both of its iX SUVs. After all, the two electric motors ensure a stable and admirable power output. Surely, an all-wheel drive, advanced suspension, a massive battery pack, and many other performance-oriented features are there to help the BMW iX SUV perform exceptionally on the road, but the engine is at the core.

The exterior of the BMW iX SUV can indeed divide gearheads because of that massive front grille, but luckily, there are other features to love for their performance-boosting capabilities. For instance, the BMW iX SUV achieves great aerodynamics on the road thanks to the carbon cage with carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) on the roof, specially developed wheels, handles, and door frames, sleek headlights, and much more. Plus, these features also look incredibly good, making the vehicle stand out on the road.

As the BMW iX SUV sheds off weight with specially designed exterior (and interior!) features, it can accelerate quicker, achieve better handling, and provide higher control to the driver. But again, we also like that this performance-oriented design is easy on the eye.

Considering BMW markets its iX as a future-inspired SUV, we expected it to come with the most advanced tech out there. The latest generation iDrive 8 display and control system was a little surprise, though. The BMW iX SUV ended up with the most extensive and advanced tech equipment ever offered by BMW.

We're well aware this will turn out to be an enumeration, but we promise that it won't be dull. The BMW iX SUV comes with a large 14.9-inch infotainment display, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, an intelligent personal assistant, navigation, Wi-Fi hotspot with a 5G cellular connection, 18- or 30-speaker system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and much more.

Other impressive tech features we should mention are (*takes a deep breath*) a multi-function hexagonal steering wheel, multiple driving modes, Bluetooth wireless technology, USB ports, ambient lighting (the really cool one), a power tailgate, panoramic eclipsing sky lounge roof, and more.

For the full feature list, we recommend checking out the official website. Ours is to say, after this lengthy enumeration, that the tech is probably the best feature of the BMW iX SUV.

Within this praise of BMW iX SUV's tech, we also want to highlight the safety and security system as a mention-worthy feature. This vehicle has an impressive range of driver-assistance features to keep your rides simple, safe, and worry-free. Thanks to many advanced sensors, the BMW iX SUV provides parking assistance, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, collision warning, active blind spot detection, lane departure warning, and much more.

So, the bottom line is — the BMW iX SUV boasts such an admirable number of quality and practical features that its high price and global praise come as no surprise. Within the luxury electric SUV segment, it's one of our top picks.
