BMW has a long tradition of racing offering a range of vehicles to individuals and privateers on the GT3 and GT4 racing circuit. With the new generation M4, BMW hopes to offer a special variant for its customer program in the GT3 class. If all goes according to plan, the car will makes its debut on the world racing circuit in 2022 replacing the M6 GT3 which has won multiple times at the 24 Hours at Spa and the FIA GT World Cup in Macau to name a few.

3 The Purpose

The car has been in development for several months featuring a BMW M TwinPower straight-6 engine developing over 500 hp to the rear wheels. Chassis development and road testing with the S58 powerplant have been optimized to deliver exceptional road handling and racing dynamics on the world's leading race tracks.

The BMW M Customer Racing Program is, according to BMW Group Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt, "...the central pillar of [the] motorsport programme." And the new M4 GT3 will provide the perfect foundation for private teams and gentleman racers to immediately hit the track and win. They expect a lot as the M6 GT3 was known for its durability and exceptional road manners.

The remainder of 2019 and 2020 will continue to focus on in-house development, component testing, and road tuning. Full road testing will commence in 2021 with simulated racing conditions. And if all goes according to plan, we should see the BMW M4 GT3 on race tracks in the U.S. and across the globe for the 2022 racing season.
