Whether we like it or not, the electric revolution is coming. In fact, it is already happening. Electric cars are slowly but surely becoming a lot more commonplace. And we are slowly seeing a wider range of vehicles. Heck, we are even getting an electric hummer! But there is a market for small – and I mean very small – electric vehicles. Just ask BMW. They are launching a brand new electric scooter, the BMW Motorrad Definition CE 04. Two-wheeled mobility, with electric power, for the urban environment.

Greener Transport

As we move to greener transport, the idea of an electric scooter suddenly starts to make sense. Not everyone wants to cycle to work or around town. Nor do we always want to use our car for perhaps a half-hour run out. Plus, what about getting around the town itself? This is what BMW aims to do: provide that sort of mobility. On the face of it, it's quite an aggressive looking machine with a black swing arm, and there are slim batteries in the underfloor section.

You can even connect with the scooter. Using your smartphone you can connect with the display on the CE 04. The batteries and drive unit are purposely small and slim, to save weight and allow you to easily get around trickier spots. The aim is for the CE 04 to be an all-round scooter, with no place out of bounds.

Urban Mobility

This is certainly a change of pace from what BMW has made in the past. And the best bit of all this? Being an electric scooter, it's 100% emissions-free. That is, apart from the manufacturing process, but we will gloss over that. This is a continuation of BMW’s C Evolution and the Concept Link concept bike. Whether it really takes off, we'll have to wait and see. But this could be a great solution to some of our urban travel issues.
