When it comes to tuning BMW vehicles, AC Schnitzer is perhaps one of the tuners you should consider calling. As long as it’s a BMW, AC Schnitzer can definitely take care of it. But for the first time, the German sports car tuner has turned its eyes on a Toyota vehicle – the fifth-generation Supra.

But why aren't we surprised by this development? Well it’s really no big secret, the latest-gen Toyota Supra is a BMW underneath. The Supra and the BMW Z4 are essentially twins separated at birth. Both are even powered by the same yet differently tuned engine. Since the BMW DNA remains, tuners specializing in tinkering with BMW offerings – such as AC Schnitzer -- can also fiddle with the new Supra.

As AC Schnitzer pointed out, the BMW technology built into the new Supra has allowed the German tuner to integrate -- for the first time -- its core competence into a Toyota vehicle. AC Schnitzer thus developed a new range of offerings for the fifth-gen Japanese sports car, including those related to aerodynamics, suspension, engine, wheels and tires as well as the interior.

To enhance downforce, the German tuner is offering an assertive black matte front splitter and an aggressive AC Schnitzer Racing carbon rear wing. Wheel options include AC3 forged wheels (9” x 20” front and 10” x 20” rear) in anthracite silver, as well as AC1 rims (8.5” x 20” front and 10” x 20” rear) in anthracite or bicolor.

A bump in power is a welcome development for the new Toyota Supra. The most powerful standard Supra is served by a 3.0-liter turbocharged B58 engine – yes, from BMW – that delivers 335 hp (250 kW) of max output and 369 lb.-ft. (500 Nm) of peak torque.

AC Schnitzer’s performance upgrade for the B58-powered Toyota Supra entails the installation of an additional plug-and-play control unit. This boosts the mill’s power to 394 hp (294 kW) and 443 lb.-ft. (600 Nm). As per the German tuner, optimal performance can be achieved by using 98 octane (minimum) fuel. A rear silencer is also available.

Complementing the power bump is a lowered ride thanks to a new suspension kit. You can choose between the AC Schnitzer RS adjustable suspension that lowers the Toyota Supra up to 1.6 inches (40 mm), and the AC Schnitzer suspension spring kit that grounds the height by nearly an inch (25 mm).

Aside from rear exterior enhancements like the rear wing and front splitter, AC Schnitzer also offers some interior improvements for the Toyota Supra: an aluminum pedal set, aluminum footrest, aluminum cover for the system controller, and a key holder.

If you’re interested in these upgrades, you can contact AC Schnitzer. However, the tuner says they will be launched after Spring 2020. That’s just months away!
