The Overview Of The Luxurious SUV

As already mentioned, the 2022 BMW X7 offers two engines: a 335 hp turbocharged six-cylinder and a 523 hp twin-turbo V-8. Both pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, which is pretty impressive. The first proves to be quieter and the second more powerful, but either one of them is a great choice.

In terms of design, not much will change for the 2022 BMW X7. The sleek and sporty exterior spread on a large canvas remains the same and recognizable, including the less praised kidney grilles on the front. Inside, one can't get enough luxurious materials and features. The X7 sets high standards for its rivals, especially with some extras such as heated front seats and ambient lighting.

The X7 has it all, starting with the panoramic glass roof for a more spacious feeling, plenty of safety features, and a driver assistance system. There are also some incredible optional features such as the Panoramic Sky Lounge LED Roof, Glass Controls, and premium leather. Essentially, you can customize your new X7 to meet all your dreams.

Considering this model is a three-row SUV, there's also plenty of room inside for passengers and cargo. The X7 is one of the biggest vehicles BMW makes, so a lot is invested in the cargo space. The third row is a little confined, and the power-operated seats are slow to move, but these are all the minor nuances considering the overall capacity and comfort.

What To Expect From 2022 BMW X7?

The grand 2022 BMW X7 comes in three trims. The standard xDrive40i has a turbocharged six-cylinder engine and produces 335 hp. Developing from 0 to 60 mph under 5.5 seconds, this one is quick and has decent fuel economy.

The X7 M50i, on the other hand, comes with a twin-turbo V-8 engine that produces up to 523 hp. Needless to say, this trim is even quicker, but the third one steals all the fame.

The Alpina XB7 is the top trim with the same V-8 engine but adopted performance for a total output of 612 hp. BMW claims this model goes up to 60 mph in 4 seconds. You can check out and compare the gas mileage here, although the ratings for the Alpina are not revealed yet.

Generally speaking, the real choice comes down to the xDrive40i or the Alpina. The former comes at about $75,000 and the latter at an estimated $142. Although the M50i delivers improved power for around $100,000, it is not really a significant upgrade from the first trim yet requires quite some more cash. Plus, a couple of upgraded tech features in M50i (for example, power sunshades) don't add much to the already luxurious interior.

All three trims contain exceptional instrument clusters and access to media and communication through Android Auto and Apple Car Play. They also come with built-in navigation, a solid audio system, and standard driver-assistance technology. The Alpina is indeed extra polished for more style, but the xDrive40i is still an excellent choice for about $70,000 less.

Where The 2022 BMW X7 Stands Against The Competition

We still have to wait and see how the BMW X7 performs over time. However, we can draw some comparisons with the vehicles of the same class coming in 2022. For instance, the 2022 Audi SQ7 is another high-performing SUV that costs half the Alpina XB7 price. Still, the latter is much more spacious, comfortable, and powerful.

On the other hand, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo is priced similarly to the xDrive40i and quite powerful, hitting 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. Where it falls short compared to the X7 is the capacity. So, if you're looking for a big and luxurious SUV, the 2022 BMW X7 may be the right choice.

As a final verdict, the X7 is not a perfect SUV, but it is outstandingly stylish and powerful, and it performs its purpose without a flaw. The only question is, how much savings do you have?
