The relationship between Mercedes and Brabus has been strong for several decades, ever since the first Mercedes was tuned back in 1979. After modifying several cars from different German automakers, Brabus decided to team up with Mercedes again in 2019 to create the most powerful SUV the world had ever seen. In 2018, Mercedes launched the G63 AMG at the Geneva Auto Show, which garnered instant popularity with G-Class enthusiasts. Brabus torqued and tweaked the G63 model and launched the G V12 900 at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show with a never seen before aggression on the already powerful AMG. The tremendous power and surreal outline made every jaw drop at the unveiling.

While the Brabus GV12 900 and Mercedes G63 AMG feature a lot of similarities, they vary in several aspects, from their powertrain to the customization of the interior. Here’s a comparison between the Brabus G V12 900 and Mercedes G63 AMG.

The iconic silhouette of the Brabus G V12 isn’t hard to miss. Retaining the same outlook of the G63, Brabus decided to tweak the visual perspective. The exhaust system was changed to an all-stainless design and a pair of black-chrome tailpipes located at the front of the rear wheels. The G V12 900 developed an intake module with a hood scoop on the front bonnet to maximize the air supply. To optimize driver safety and cover a wider track, Brabus restyled the width of the body and increased the diameters of the wheels to 24 inches.

With a ‘V8 Bi-Turbo’ lettering engraved on the sides, G63 AMG displayed the essence of its one-of-a-kind Mercedes. The eyes are immediately drawn to the vertical, high-glass chromed radiator trim that sets it apart from its previous versions. Fixed with 10-spoke light-alloy 20-inch wheels, the G63 AMG had a striking finish. The clean lines and large, flat surfaces make the G63 a recognizable G-Class even from afar.

For the redesigned model, Brabus didn’t hesitate to add its touches to the interior. While keeping the signature interiors intact, the G V12 came fitted with customized leather seats and Brabus-engineered carbon fiber inlays LED lighting. To take things a step further, they also added aluminum accessories in every area of the cabin.

The G63 AMG upgraded from its previous model to offer more space for passengers to enjoy. The refreshing seats were made from Nappa leather that contained rhombus-shaped quilting in the middle. The instrument cluster provided an exciting new design and configuration for the driver to enjoy. With exclusive interior and color variation options, the G63 AMG has a distinctive character.

Brabus wasn’t satisfied with the original V12 horsepower and decided to tune up the already high-performing Mercedes. They added a series of new and improved features, including custom exhaust and intake manifolds, larger turbochargers, and new air filtration systems. They also upgraded the engine to 6.3-liter. The Brabus V12 powered through with 900 HP and produced a peak torque of 1,109 lb-ft. With a top speed of 174 MPH, it was the second-fastest production SUV in the market. Equipped with a nine-speed automatic transmission gearbox, the Brabus vehicle could prance from 0 to 60 MPH in 3.8 seconds.

On the other hand, G63 AMG comes with a pulse-racing, 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbo engine. Perfect for an on-road and off-road journey, the advanced engine with the special Driver’s package makes the G63 AMG a complete ride. The G63 delivers a horsepower of 577 with 627 lb-ft of torque. The smaller engine provides a better punch and saves fuel economy for the car. The G63 AMG also comes equipped with a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

Brabus has admired Mercedes for a long time. As the new customizations became more exclusive, the G V12 900 also became a rare creation from the brand. The customized iteration focused on customer needs. Therefore only ten units were produced of the limited edition car. Also, it came with a price tag of a whopping $875,500.

Ranked number 1 in the Luxury Large SUV category for 2019, the Mercedes G63 AMG is a dynamite combination of luxury interior and off-road prowess for its competitors. The 2019 standard model was priced at $147,500, costing five times less than the Brabus GV12 900 iteration.

It may seem as the Brabus G V12 has the upper hand being the strongest SUV on the market with a 900 HP output. However, customers are still enthralled by the magnificent V8 bi-turbo offered by the standard Mercedes G63 AMG.

Both of these cars are equipped with unique features, from customized interior to ambient driving experience. While the Brabus G V12 900 is made for a more aggressive off-road experience, the Mercedes G63 AMG remains a tamer version. However, since Brabus is only made 10 units of the car, the G63 AMG remains more attainable than its tuned-up counterpart.
