Alpina and Brabus are two German car tuning companies. Whereas Alpina is recognized as a separate German car marque, Brabus is just a tuning house. Nevertheless, they do like to tune their cars and both brands have a set car company they work with. Brabus strictly works with the Mercedes group, whilst Alpina is sticking with BMW.

Both brands are also wildly different, with Brabus focusing more on power and Alpina being focused more on luxury. Both brands have made some very cool cars over the years, however, which ones are the best? Which Alpina models would we take over Brabus and vise versa?

10 Brabus Black Baron

The Brabus Black Baron is a very rare car, with just ten ever made. It is by far the most powerful sedan ever from the factory with 800hp and 1047 lb-ft of torque. This thing is a weapon! The prices started at $875,000, which is a lot of money for a tuned-up E-Class Mercedes.

Under the hood is a 6.3-liter V12. It's a Brabus signature masterpiece, and it's what makes this car so special. The body kit is also pretty insane and the car even has a set of aerodynamic wheel covers. It's a crazy car and unrestricted, it'll do 230 mph flat out, and 0-60 is dealt with 3.7 seconds.

9 Alpina B7

The Alpina B7 is a properly luxurious car. The latest B7 is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V12 with 600hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. It hits 60 in 3.6 seconds and flat out does almost 200 mph. It's a seriously quick car, and it's just so luxurious.

Alpina leather is super soft, and their craftsmanship within the interior is so much better than what BMW can do. It feels more expensive than it actually is. The exterior too is pretty cool with those classic multi-spoke Alpina alloys and subtle Alpina body kit.

8 Brabus Bullit

via: brabus.com

The Brabus Bullit is a car that really does not make any sense at all. The engine cubic capacity is still around 6200cc, like the V8 Mercedes use in the C63. However, it does have an extra 4 cylinders. That's right, it's got a V12 resting under the hood, which means it's a small sedan with a huge engine, like a mouse with an elephant's heart.

This car has heaps of torque. Actually, that's a complete understatement. Producing 974 lb-ft, it has so much torque that it can give people nightmares. Horsepower-wise, it's a lot less at 720hp, but that's still as much as a new Ferrari F8. A scary car, but tire manufacturers love a car like this mainly because this car chomps its tires within seconds. Unfortunately, not many people own one of these, mainly because prices start at just over $542,000.

7 Alpina Z8

The Z8 is one of the most beautiful cars ever. Unfortunately, it's a terrible car to drive. It has hardly any grip whatsoever, but all is forgiven when you realize the taillights are neon tubes. The Z8 would be a far better GT than a supercar or sports car. This is where the Alpina Z8 comes in.

Alpina made the suspension softer, swapped the M5 S62 V8 for an Alpina-tuned M62 V8 from the 540i. Then they switched the 6-speed manual gearbox to a 5-speed BMW Steptronic automatic gearbox. They then put in softer leather and installed Alpina gauges. It also had cooler 5-spoke alloys.

6 Brabus SLR

This is such a cool car. Where do we even start? Those classic multi-spoke Brabus alloys suit this car far too well. This is what you call a proper hypercar. It cost almost $800,000, which is insane, and for that, you got 660hp and 575 lb-ft of torque.

Its exhaust was so loud, that it eventually became illegal for street use. It's stupidly fast and inside it's very luxurious with an Alcantara steering wheel. In comparison to the standard McLaren SLR, the Brabus SLR doesn't offer anything significant in terms of power to justify the huge price difference. However, when it comes to looks, the Brabus SLR is just a million times cooler.

5 Alpina B12 5.7

via Carscoops

The E31 8-Series is such a cool car. The one to own is the 850CSi, which features the large V12. It's the closest you will get to a production E31 M8. Or is it? Well, the Alpina B12 5.7 is an absolute weapon. Under the hood is a 5.7-liter V12 with 410hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. More than a Ferrari 360.

This is a proper Grand Tourer or supercar. It looks so cool and classy, and all the windows can go down, unlike the new G15 8-Series. What would make this car cooler though are those classic 5-spoke Alpina alloys. Then, it would be something really special.

4 Brabus 900 Rocket Cabrio

via: newsatlas.com

This is the world's fastest four-seat convertible, and it has heaps of power. It has 900hp and over 1100 lb-ft of torque. These numbers make us speechless. It's 0-60 though is a little disappointing, at 3.7 seconds, which is only disappointing because this car has so much power.

It is a heavy car though. It's full of luxury, and it sounds like a grizzly bear. The body kit is absolutely stunning too, and those monoblock alloys look so cool. The real finishing piece though is the engine bay. It's packed with carbon, and it looks so high quality.

3 Alpina B10 V8 S

The Alpina B10 V8 S was launched after the success of the Alpina B10 V8, which was one of the most successful Alpina cars ever. The V8 S is one of the nicest sedans out there, with a creamy smooth 4.6-liter N62 V8 under the hood. It has 370hp and 376 lb-ft of torque, enough to make it hit 60 in around 5.4 seconds, and flat out it does 176 mph.

The V8 S is a very traditional Alpina. It features those awesome multispoke alloys, a subtle body kit, and lovely paint options. To top it all of, you can always find one with an original Alpina decal pack finished in either silver or gold.

2 Brabus G-Class

There have been many variants of the Barbus G-Class, all of which have been awesome. There have been the V12 models, the 4x4 Squared models, and even the 6x6 models. Brabus does a really cool body kit for the G-Class that makes it so much more aggressive. If you're the head of a Mafia, then you need a few Brabus G-Class cars.

Road & Track

One of the latest Brabus G-Class models is the G800 Widestar. It's based on the 4.0 BiTurbo G63, but power is increased to 800hp and 737 lb-ft of torque. That's a lot of power. It hits 60 in 4.1 seconds which is impressive for a box on wheels.

The Alpina B5 BiTurbo is the mature man's M5. It's based mainly on the M550i and features the same 4.4-liter N63 V8 as seen in the M550i, however, it has been tuned massively. It pushes out 599hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, and due to how much torque is produced, the ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox had to be redesigned to tackle the extra power.

Courtesy Autocar

The B5 hit 60 in just 3.5 seconds which is 0.1 seconds slower than the M5. Flat out, it does 205 mph which is the same as a 991 Porsche Turbo S. It's a very classy car with awesome-looking decals, cool multispoke alloys, and a subtle body kit.
