The Pontiac Aztek. It is perhaps one of the most controversial SUVs of recent memory. It wasn't because of any major mechanical issues, but rather due to it being such a strange looking car. Journalists even dubbed it the most controversial looking car ever created. But it wasn’t all bad, as it certainly got people talking! But what if one of them was created in 2020? Well, we don’t need to imagine anymore. Talented artist Oscar V has uploaded some fantastic new renders on his Instagram page of an all-new Aztek designed in 2020.

Inspired By Another Pontiac Aztek Rendering

Oscar had some inspiration for this. Fellow designer Abimelec Design did his own rendering, producing a very interesting take on the Aztek. This is what gave Oscar his inspiration. There are clear design marks from the original SUV. The large front grille has been retained, but it has been refined to have slightly more elegant styling. This is actually a rendering Oscar has done before, but he has added a new paint job and it features an off-road Goodyear paint job too.

There are much larger Goodyear tires on this Aztek, and the green/lime color looks fantastic matched with the white roof on top. Oscar has added his own little design feature too. He has created a design logo based on Walter White’s “Heisenberg” persona and attached it to the side of the Aztek. This could be the badge for a special Aztek edition, and it looks fantastic.

Think you’ve seen this styling on an SUV before? Well, that’s because you have! Oscar’s original inspiration was from the Chevrolet Blazer. The original Aztek’s styling was so bizarre that automotive critic Dan Neil called it “one of the 50 worst cars of all time.” It’s perhaps not all that hard to see why.

Despite the car’s poor reception, however, it was actually a decent crossover attempt. There was plenty of space, it was comfortable to ride in, and it did the job it was built for without issue. Should a new Aztek ever appear, Oscar has done a great job of giving us an idea of what one might look like. And it looks like it would be a winner.
