What BMW have done with the interior of the new 7 Series is simply astounding. If you appreciate comfort and the finer things in life, then this vehicle’s cabin is for you. The new 2023 model's design has one thing in mind, pure luxury.

A spokesman for BMW summed it up quite well "Customers of this segment don't want any compromises." If you thought the interior of the Tesla Cybertruck or Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV are breathtaking, wait till you take a look inside the all-new BMW 7 Series, their sumptuous new flagship car

Most articles like this start with the cockpit and walk you around the interior of the car from there. Well, in this instance, we won’t be. Because the real showstopper, inside the new 2023 7-Series, is in the rear. If you think driving one of these luxury cruisers is the fun bit, well we’ve got some news for you, you’re wrong. The rear of the car is where all the actions at.

The rear passengers are the lucky ones, because not only do they get to enjoy the amazing comfort provided by the best backseats ever deployed in a car (more to follow on this later), but they get their own private in-car theater.

The best feature of the new 7 Series is the 31” theater screen. This huge panoramic display almost spans the whole width of the interior, and offers up a clarity fit for kings; whopping 8K resolution. It's powered by the same software used in Amazon’s Fire tablets, and when it descends from the ceiling, it transforms the rear of the car into a luxury movie theater.

It's when you lower the theater screen, that the real magic happens. As the screen comes down the cabin lights dim, just like curtain up at a real movie theater. The sunblinds covering the side windows, rear window and sunroof, all close automatically. And the occupied seats recline, to get you ready for a vehicular movie experience like no other.

The ambient lighting is superb. You can tweak the color and intensity, to whatever suits your mood. Other cool technologies on board the new 7 Series include 5G aerial that allows access to the internet is fast and easy. You can access any of your favorite streaming services. But the incredible rear screen also has a built-in Amazon Fire Stick, so you can log in to your Prime account and catch up on the latest shows and movies.

BMW calls it 'Theater-mode', and all that’s really missing is a hot dog stand and some popcorn. The massive display screen supports multiple aspect ratios up to 32:9, and what's really nice is the picture actually fills the whole screen too.

You can move the screen backwards and forwards to optimize your viewing experience. You don’t even need to stretch your arm out to prod the touchscreen, because BMW has provided smartphone-sized (5.5”) digital controllers in each rear door to manage it. These handy little devices, which have tilted screens, not only control the theater screen, but also operate the rear climate zones, sunshades, seats, ambient lighting and sunroof.

If music is your thing, you could go for the optional Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System. With this superb piece of kit, you can listen to your favorite songs through 36 speakers, which are strategically positioned throughout the cabin. BMW roped on Hollywood composer Hanz Zimmer to help develop their top-end audio system that pushes out 1,965 watts, and the sound quality is just sublime.

The system has four sound modes, and two of the surround sound speakers are in the head restraints of each seat in the car. It uses sensors in the seats to optimize the sound quality for each occupant. Imagine sitting in the back with your eyes closed, listening to Andrea Bocelli fill the cabin. There is a heaven.

After a long day at the office, your chauffeur shows up (okay, maybe your partner then), and you jump in the back of the 7-Series. You just want to unwind in the optional Executive Lounge seats. These seats allow you to recline, and they provide a handy leg rest behind the front passenger seat if you fancy taking a quick nap.

If your mobile is losing charge, you can top it up in the quilted armrest. You can adjust the seat backrest angle, upper backrest angle, forward/back position and surface tilt, to pretty much any position under the panoramic sunroof.

The BMW's multifunction seats have heating, cooling, ventilation, and best of all a nine-program massage function. So, if your necks a little stiff or your lower back is griping a bit, there’s no need to call for a masseuse. A feature which is available on both front and rear seats.

If it's winter, your hands and elbows will never feel cold again. With the optional Heat Comfort package you get a heated steering wheel and heated armrests, both in the door trim and the center console.

And fitted as standard above your head is the gorgeous glass panoramic sunroof. BMW says “It's larger than that of any rival, and now also much longer than the one on the outgoing 7 Series in its rear section in particular.” And it is a lovely size roof, which brings a lot of light into the cabin.

To enhance the roof even more you can go for the Sky Lounge package. With this you get your very own light show via inbuilt LED threads in the glass that display the same diamond-shaped pattern as the quilting on the seats. So you get this really cool cross-hatch design emblazoned across the ceiling.

All in all, the 7-Series epitomizes luxury, and the Movie Theater option does take your breath away. It's a great way of enticing you into the car. But the question is, with your own private cine-complex just sitting on your drive - could it put an end to cinema-going?
