These days, just about everyone seems to focus on hardcore off-roaders, as Ford revives the Bronco nameplate and Fiat-Chrysler claps back with the Raptor-slaying Ram TRX. But once upon a time, street-sport pickup trucks like the GMC Syclone and Dodge Ram SRT-10 earned plenty of headlines, so perhaps someday soon, the automotive industry will come full circle and bring back some of those legendary models. And let's not forget hot-rodded pickup trucks—though to be fair, the only real attempt at building a factory hot rod pickup came in the form of the disappointing Chevy SSR. But if Detroit gets back in a hot-rodding mood, perhaps this chopped custom Dodge pickup with 331ci Hemi power currently listed on the auction website Bring a Trailer could serve as inspiration.
Changes Over The Years
The truck began its life as a 1940 Dodge VF-32, though clearly, a lot has changed since then. Under a prior owner's care, Bonehead Motor Company of Fort Pierce, Florida, undertook a serious build process including chopping the body and mounting it on a custom frame using an air suspension system.
Under The Hood
The heart of the build comes in the form of a 331ci Hemi V8 built up with an Iskenderian camshaft, Flyrite valve covers, and a Hot Heads intake manifold. With a Holley fuel pump and regulator, plus a set of custom ceramic-coated headers, the setup routes power to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic and a nine-inch locking rear differential equipped with 3.55 gearing.
Cramped Or Cozy
The chopped cabin could make driving what was once a roomy, if Spartan, pickup into something of a chore for a taller bidder, though it looks great with saddle leather upholstery on the bucket seats, door panels, and roof. Amenities include power steering, climate control from Vintage Air, and even a stereo system with Apple CarPlay. Bidding currently sits at $5,000 with seven days remaining until the final gavel.
