The current muscle car era has resulted in some pretty amazing cars from Detroit's Big Three such as the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, Ford's new Mustang Shelby GT500, and the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE. In some ways, General Motors' decision to redesign the Corvette as an affordable mid-engined supercar can be viewed as an attempt to differentiate the 'Vette from the beastly products on the market today. And yet, there's something about cars from the original muscle car era that still take the cake – especially when they've been worked over to achieve modern performance, as in the case of this 1968 Plymouth Satellite build currently listed for sale on the auction website Bring a Trailer.

Under The Hood

Somewhere between a Pro Touring project and the restomod style that has become so popular lately, this Plymouth is now powered by an overbored 340ci V8 that was installed about 5,000 miles ago and built up with hypereutectic pistons, a Comp Cams Big Mutha' Thumpr camshaft, and a forged steel crankshaft. It's also received a low-profile oil pan, a Six-Pack intake manifold from Mopar, triple Barry Grant Demon two-barrel carburetors, and Edelbrock Performer RPM cylinder heads. The setup routes power to the rear first through a Chrysler four-speed manual gearbox, then an aluminum driveshaft on the way to an 8.75-inch rear end equipped with a limited-slip differential and 3.73 gearing.

On the interior, aftermarket bucket seats are fitted with four-point harnesses and flanked by a roll cage and custom aluminum door panels. A suite of aftermarket gauges have been installed, as has a three-spoke Momo steering wheel and a cueball shifter from Hurst. That exterior paint shade is Lime Light green and the black hood and bumpers are all fiberglass units. Bidding currently sits at $18,900 with six days remaining until the final gavel.
