Bugatti can be seen as a multinational automaker, at least as it pertains to the original Bugatti brand. Founded by Ettore Bugatti, a man of Italian descent, in the then-German city of Molsheim, this automaker set out to make the best race cars in the world. Sadly, despite the countless victories before and after WWII, Ettore Bugatti passed away in 1947, leaving the brand with basically no future.

After the short-lived era of the Italian-owned Bugatti and the EB110S, this French brand was taken over by the Volkswagen Group in 1998. Once the Germans took over, they decided to do something with their newly acquired subsidiary that only they could have possibly dreamed up; the next car to wear the Bugatti badge would be the world's fastest.

People were skeptical at first until Bugatti debuted the Veyron in 2005, which successfully achieved 253 MPH, earning it the title of the fastest production car in the world. In 2016, Bugatti introduced the Chiron, the Veyron's next-in-line. It used a similar 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine, tuned to make it produce around 1,500 HP.

While some other rides seemingly caught up, Bugatti once again kicked them where it hurt most by taking a modified Chiron up to 300 MPH in 2019. Although the Chiron Super Sport 300+, the production version of the car that set the record and one of many Bugatti special editions, sold out almost immediately, we have good news; there's another one.

Overview Of The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport

Bugatti not only took a Chiron to 300 MPH but also put that car into production, so it's no surprise that supplies were immediately scooped up. Due to the popularity of the Chiron Super Sport 300+ and the feat that it achieved, Bugatti has blessed the world with a new version.

Called simply the Chiron Super Sport, it's essentially the same car as the one that set the record, albeit with a little bit more focus on comfort. Unfortunately, they also lowered the top speed to "only" 273 MPH.

While the Super Sport will be built in higher numbers than the 300+, this is no mass-market car; only around 60 units of the Chiron Super Sport will ever be made, and it's a safe bet that, if this isn't the swansong of the Chiron, then it's definitely the first verse.

The exterior has some very noticeable changes compared to the regular Chiron; the front end has way more aggressive intakes, the fenders are wider, and there are new Y-spoke alloy wheels as standard. The whole car is slightly longer than the Chiron for better aerodynamics, while the rear features the quad tailpipe setup pinched from the Super Sport 300+ and the EB110-inspired Centodieci one-off.

Powertrain And Drivetrain

Obviously, only one powertrain is offered in the Bugatti Chiron family. It's much the same here; an 8.0-liter 16-cylinder (W16) with four turbochargers. In the Super Sport, it develops 1,577 HP and 1,180 lb-ft of torque. Bugatti hasn't said anything about the 0-60 time, but it's probably somewhere in the low 2-second range.

Bugatti has, however, said how quickly it can get to higher speeds; 0-124 MPH in 5.8 seconds and 0-186 MPH in 12.1 seconds, to be precise. Meanwhile, it's 7% faster than a regular Chiron from 0 to 249 MPH.

Like all other Bugattis, the Chiron is only available with AWD, and the immense power reaches the wheels through a tweaked version of the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which now has a longer seventh gear.

What's Inside The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport?

The interior of the Chiron Super Sport

Open up the Chiron Super Sport's door, and you find an interior that we're all used to. It's identical to what you'd find in any other Chiron, except the Super Sport 300+. This car is all about bringing back creature comforts while retaining the record-breaker's incredible styling. The car pictured has its interior finished in gorgeous two-tone brown and black leather, with various brightwork throughout.

The center has no infotainment screen but rather four control knobs that can also display vehicle information when they're not being used to adjust the HVAC. The big central speedometer remains, flanked on both sides by configurable displays, one of them showing the infotainment and the other showing a tachometer and various other configurable displays. Everything is exactly as you'd expect; expensive, well-made, and gorgeous.

Pricing And Launch Of The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport

As mentioned, Bugatti plans to build only 60 examples of this incredible hypercar. We expect deliveries to start in early 2022, with prices starting around $4 million. That's a lot of money, but then again, this is a lot of car. Bugatti hasn't said how many examples of the Chiron Super Sport, if any, will be coming to North America.

Bugatti has proven that they're capable of making the fastest car in the world more than once. With the Chiron Super Sport, they managed to connect two integral parts of their DNA; immense speed and stunning comfort/luxury. There's no other way to put it; the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport really is a special car.
