Bugatti has a history of making some of the most incredible supercars the world has ever seen. Just when you think they just can't do anymore, they announce the Chiron Super Sport, which is an updated version of the standard Chiron and has been given some mechanical and exterior tweaks to help it become even faster and look better while doing it.
Despite the manufacturer's focus on speed, the Super Sport has also been given a luxurious and particularly comfortable interior too, adding a touch of refinement. Below are some of the best features of the new Bugatti Chiron Super Sport.
10 Engine And Power
Let's begin with the obvious, anyone who know anything about Bugatti knows that they are one of few brands that consistently seek to achieve the absolute maximum in performance in a road car, and a huge chunk of that is down to the engine.
The Chiron Super Sport uses a W16 engine with 4 turbochargers. The resulting power of this quad-turbocharged engine is a mind-boggling 1,580 hp. Interestingly, this is the same engine as used in the Bugatti Centodieci too.
9 Special Tires
It shouldn't be too surprising that a car with almost 1,600 hp needs some pretty good tires to handle all of that power. To put it simply, your standard economy-level tires aren't going to cut it here, that's for sure.
To solve the problem of having all that power transferred to the road, Bugatti looked to Michelin for a solution. During speed testing, a layer of carbon fiber was added to help reinforce the standard Chiron Pilot Cup 2 tires provided by Michelin.
8 Aerodynamics
The Bugatti's ludicrous amount of power means absolutely nothing if the aerodynamics aren't up to scratch. Fortunately, to achieve the highest speeds possible, Bugatti have made some tweaks over past versions in order to push the car to its limit.
The body of the new Super Sport is almost 10 inches longer than the standard Chiron. Even the exhausts have been relocated in favor of supporting the diffuser. All of this means that the Chiron Super Sport is as aerodynamic as possible, allowing it to cut through the air with ease.
7 Exclusivity
Obviously, the Chiron Super Sport was never going to be particularly common, even by hypercar standards. Yet the few number of Chiron Super Sports planned for production will make it highly unlikely that you'll ever see one. That is, unless you're one of the lucky few who can afford one.
Bugatti Claimed that there will only be a maximum of 500 Chirons planned for production, and this includes special editions like the Super Sport and the Super Sport 300+ which is confirmed to have 30 planned units, the Chiron Super Sport is a rare car indeed. To put that into perspective, over 900 Porsche 918 Spyders have been made.
6 Acceleration And Top Speed
We can't talk about the gigantic 8.0-liter W16 engine the Chiron Super Sport houses without talking about the max speed and the acceleration times. Of course, that is a huge reason this car exists, as Bugatti seem to be addicted to breaking theirs and everyone else's speed records.
Although the Super Sport 300+ can reach 300 mph, as the name implies, the regular Super Sport will be toned down somewhat. Surprisingly, the Super Sport will actually be limited to 273 mph, although this shouldn't make too much of a difference to potential buyers, as reaching speeds even close to this should be almost impossible on normal roads. As for acceleration, 0-124 mph takes just 5.8 seconds and 0-186 mph takes 12.1 seconds.
5 The Bodywork
Visually, the Super Sport is truly a sight to behold. The looks and stature are certainly fitting for a car capable of achieving those speeds, and is perhaps the best looking Bugatti to date.
Its sleek exterior can't be matched by any other car, especially with that new long-tail design with helps reduce drag. The body is largely constructed from carbon fiber although is painted, unlike the 300+ which was bare carbon fiber.
4 Electronically Controlled Chassis
To coincide with the new high speeds and improved aerodynamics, Bugatti developed a new chassis for the Super Sport specifically, which is electronically controlled.
The Super Sport has been given harder springs than the standard Chiron, which help to stabilize the vehicle when travelling at speeds above 250 mph. Engineers even retuned the electronically controlled chassis too, helping it regulate settings in real-time, taking just six milliseconds to do so.
3 Weight Saving
In order to achieve these new and improved top speed and acceleration times, certain measures had to be taken in order to save a little bit of weight from the standard Chiron.
The Super Sports diet consisted of modifications to the turbochargers, cylinder head with valve train, the oil pump and even the transmission and clutch. All of this weight saving resulted in an overall reduction of just over 50 lbs.
2 Luxurious Interior
In the pursuit for comfort and added luxury, the Chiron Super Sport will come equipped with some high quality materials and modern-day conveniences, unlike the record-breaking version which isn't very road legal, to say the least.
Leather seats will be standard for both driver and passenger, unlike the record-breaking car, which only had one seat. Aluminum and carbon finishes will also be a feature of the cabin for true GT comfort and luxury in the form of a hypercar.
1 Super Sport Upgrades
Compared to a standard Chiron, the Super Sport is given a more aggressive front with bigger air intakes, some iconic circular hood vents which are a callback to Bugatti's of old, vented front fenders and a new and improved diffuser as well as stacked exhaust tips.
Standard are Bugatti's new five-spoke wheels, though if you wish, the Super Sport is also available with the same wheels as the Pur Sport and 300+ at your request. The front is given a new bumper and incorporated air curtains at the outer edges that work with the new slip vent behind the front wheel arch, ultimately reducing turbulence.
