Out of all the supercar manufacturers currently vying for top-speed supremacy today, Bugatti seems to have been the first to realize that the more expensive and exclusive the cars get, the more customers will line up to drop millions of dollars on them. But aside from fabulous displays of wealth like a gang of Chirons worth over $35 million, Bugatti also builds some serious performers, to be sure. A Chiron did, after all, become the first production vehicle to crack the 300-mile-per-hour barrier. And now, even as the newer Divo has begun deliveries, Bugatti has taken both the Chiron Super Sport 300+ and the forthcoming Chiron Pur Sport to the legendary Nardo Ring for some high-speed supercar testing.

Going On A Road Trip

In the video above, Bugatti documents eight separate cars—four of each Chiron variant— as they undergo over 20,000 kilometers (just shy of 12,500 miles) of testing. The purpose of the exercise is to employ the Nardo Ring's 7.8-mile track, which is banked by more than 12 degrees to allow for top speeds that don't require much steering below about 150 miles per hour. The track's design allows drivers to feel like they're driving in a straight line, though they're actually encompassing a 1,729-acre infield that also includes a 3.85-mile handling course to which Bugatti also subjected the Chirons.

Stefan Ellrott, Bugatti's Head of Development, said, “The Nardò test track with the high-speed circular track and the handling track is ideal for us. Here we can extensively enhance the Chiron Pur Sport and Chiron Super Sport 300+ at different speeds – and at high temperatures. Our hyper sports cars must not only operate flawlessly at moderate speeds and temperatures, but also at speeds beyond 300 km/h, as well as in cold and hot conditions.” Where the Chiron Super Sport 300+ is designed to achieve high-end top speeds, the Pur Sport, which will begin series production soon, is intended to take cornering and lateral acceleration to the limits.
