Bugatti’s upcoming luxury four-door will be priced at $1 million, but it won’t be an SUV.

We’re all still waiting for more details on the hopefully soon-to-be-revealed Bugatti four-door, mostly so we can stop calling it that and be a little more specific. Four doors isn’t exactly a particularly unique aspect of most vehicles.

Thankfully, we have a bit more information thanks to an interview between Stephan Winkelman and CAR Magazine, which took place at the Frankfurt Motor Show last week. Winkelman was asked point-blank if there was even a market for a big, expensive, luxurious, four-door vehicle of Bugatti caliber.

"There is, but most customers for these kinds of cars, especially women, want to sit high so they can see out," he replied. This would seem to lend itself to a luxury SUV, but Winkelman quickly shot that idea down by saying it wouldn’t be a “traditional SUV.” A crossover seems to be the most likely compromise.

We also got a price tag: $1 million. That's a bargain in comparison to the Chiron and Divo hypercars, although still well outside the reach of all but the most elite of the world's upper class.

No details on powertrain yet, but Winkelman said they're considering a hybrid powertrain and ruled out a total electric platform, saying that the world wasn't quite ready to give up internal combustion yet. It will likely best the Lamborghini Urus which is currently the top-tier SUV in the world, which means a faster 0-62 mph time than 3.6 seconds and greater top speed than 191 mph.

As for where this car will fit in Bugatti's new two-car lineup, Winkelman made himself abundantly clear. "The new car will be the greatest, most expensive car in its sector. But it won't be the most expensive or extreme Bugatti. The Chiron will always be on top."

We’re not sure when we’ll see Bugatti unveil this luxury crossover, but we’re hoping it will at least get some teaser images sometime later this year.
