You can't cover automotive culture in its entirety without dedicating voluminous paragraphs to car chases, whether they be as brilliantly staged in flicks like Bullitt, somewhat gratuitous in The Fast and Furious franchise, or live coverage from the O.J. Simpson Bronco bust to one April instance in California that didn't end well for the offender. Then there are the pursuit-oriented outings designed to chase the almighty buck, such as a fake highway altercation between a Chevrolet C8 Corvette and the LAPD that debuted Wednesday on YouTube. The big winner? The Corvette and what it was selling, namely a golden set of Rohana rims.

Corvette’s Imaginary Police Chase Set In LA

Okay, we get it. Wheels are a big deal in the remodding and donking world, like hipsters wearing the glitziest of Nike sneakers with the latest line of athletic wear that can look suspiciously like mining gear. Some of those custom wheels look classy like the sleek sets offered by JDM while others like Asanti's line of distorted Ferris wheels are simply trashy. Admittedly, those Rohanas do add a bit of a visually attractive dimension to the Corvette, with its gold tint sparkling in contrast to the C8's white exterior.

The video clocks in at 92 seconds, yet only nine seconds are dedicated to the police chase, with much of the remaining footage focusing on a number of showroom shots of the C8 resplendent in showing off those nifty gold rims.

It's interesting that the brief clips show the Corvette barely ahead of the LAPD SUV, given that most recent C8s would average in the delivery of about 500 horsepower and go nearly 200 mph. In contrast, police SUVs are normally reinforced Ford Explorers with roughly 300 horsepower and a top speed of around 150 mph.

In short, the Corvette would outdistance its boys-in-blue pursuers in a heartbeat. But a shiny white C8 boasting unique gold rims probably wouldn't be hard for authorities to find once the chase is called off. Regardless of the C8 Corvette’s looks, the promo is a fascinating exercise in the auto world of make believe.
