The Chevrolet C8 Corvette shocked the world with the first-ever mid-engine version of the car. It was polarizing at first but the performance has won over many initial critics. With the Z06 performance model coming for the 2023 model year, Chevrolet delivered yet another unique Corvette with a flat-plane crank 5.5-liter V8 LT6 that produces 670 hp. This is the step the C8 needed to kick into supercar territory.

With that in mind the YouTube channel, NuHorizon C8, shows the difference between the regular C8 Corvette Stingray and the new Z06. In the video, it’s clear which one of the two mid-engine Corvettes is the true supercar, and which one is a sports car. Read on to see how the original mid-engine Corvette faired against its new track-focused variant.

The C8 Chevrolet Corvettes Face Off

Both Corvettes are awesome representatives for Chevrolet’s iconic sports car. They both are part of the C8 generation which is the first to feature an engine that sits behind the driver. The Stingray features a 6.2-liter LT2 V8 with 490 horsepower while the Z06 has its unique high-revving flat-plane LT6 V8 that produces 670 horsepower. With a power advantage and more aero, the Corvette Z06 is a serious performance car for the track.

The Corvettes look awesome lined up on the strip and are set to run a 1/8th of a mile drag race for the first round. With an awesome launch and considerable torque, the white Stingray surprisingly pulls ahead and stays there until the finish line.

In the next 1/8th of a mile drag race, the orange Z06 pulls out a victory to make it one-to-one. In the third race, it’s the same story with the Z06 coming out on top again. The fourth drag race proves the Z06’s supremacy one more time. The main issue with the first race victory for the Stingray had to do with figuring out the launch settings in the Z06. Once sorted out, the Z06 showed its true potential.

With the Z06 now up three to one, the drivers agree to do some rolling starts. The first race goes similarly and the Z06 screams from 20 miles per hour to a victory. After one more race starting at 30 MPH and yet another Z06 victory, it’s clear that the car has too much power for the normal Stingray Corvette to handle.

Considering it costs significantly less, it’s impressive to see how well the Stingray does against the Z06. However, it’s clear that the Z06 is in a league of its own when it comes to a drag race.
