The lucky few who got in line early enough and dropped their hard earned money to place a pre-order for a brand-new mid-engined Corvette have begun receiving their cars, which means that every day, another few videos hit YouTube showing new owners acting like kids in a candy store. From NOS-boosted drag strip runs to twin-turbo dyno tests and more, the C8 has certainly been put through its paces—and the results look impressive from GM's affordable supercar.

But what about some flaws that might belie the car's incredible power and performance combined with a price tag starting below $60,000? Well, as one YouTuber recently discovered, the C8 does have a pretty serious problem with water entering and pooling in the engine bay.

Testing, Testing

The video begins as, ostensibly, an attempt to see just how much gear actually fits in the  C8 Corvette's two trunks. After all, most mid-engined cars are relegated to a tiny trunk behind the engine and above the exhaust, plus an even smaller "frunk" between the passenger compartment and the nose. But before trying to cram luggage, shopping bags, a lunchbox, and some golf clubs into his C8, Morgan Crosbie gave his new toy a quick wash and discovered that a ton of water had collected on and around the mid-mounted engine.

Warranty Concerns

While engines and engine bays are always designed to be able to handle a bit of water, either in the form of rain seeping in from above or puddles spraying up from below, the amount of fluid collected in the C8's engine bay after just a quick rinse with a pressure-washer certainly looks concerning. After all, modern cars are much more computerized than ever before—and getting a Macbook Air this wet would be seriously damaging to the electronics. But keeping the mid-mounted, 6.2-liter LT2 V8 on display was obviously a priority for GM, so perhaps new C8 owners would do themselves a favor to keep a few towels in the tiny trunk for after a storm or each car wash.
