General Motors' Cadillac brand has kind of been a mixed bag over the years, jumping from luxury land yachts to stereotypical laid-back cruisers and even to sport sedans and coupes (and one insane wagon). When Cadillac announced that they would follow the trend of electrification, some people questioned how well the brand could do so, after all GM doesn't exactly have a great history with electric vehicles. However, the upcoming Celestiq will, in their own words, "set a new standard for luxury EVs." With the teaser for the car debuting today at CES, the car points toward a new direction for the brand.

 Future Forward

The Celestiq is the newest car to use the "-iq" naming structure that Cadillac uses for their electric vehicles. Starting with the Lyriq earlier this year, the Celestiq is planned to debut as a road-going vehicle in the next few years, or at least to tease what the cars could look like. The Celestiq is slated to become the new flagship sedan, replacing the CT6 at some point in the relatively near future. Cadillac hopes to make the Celestiq the new standard for luxury electric sedans, outdoing every other company in the process.

Serious Luxury

The Celestiq will offer what they call a "four-quadrant, suspended-particle-device smart glass" roof in the car. This allows each passenger to decide how opaque or translucent their part of the roof is. This would be one of only a few vehicles even planned to offer this feature, and would definitely make the car stand out quite a bit. Cadillac says that the individualized experience is a key aspect to the Celestiq, unlike how many cars are designed to incorporate each person in the car.

Open Experience

To feel more open to the world, the Celestiq is designed from the inside to flow and be natural in it's movements. With a long and elegant-looking dashboard, the car's display works to limit the amount of distraction possible while driving. The rear passengers have personal screens fitted to provide various forms of entertainment, while screens fitted between the seats will control comfort settings, so as to make it easier to manage which control works each screen. Cadillac says that the Celestiq will hit production in the near future.
