After a postponement in April, the vaunted premium brand of GM has finally set its foot into the world of electric vehicles by introducing its first-ever all-electric luxury SUV – the new Cadillac Lyriq. Cadillac’s first electric SUV paves the way with a new face, proportion and road presence for its upcoming EVs. Let’s take a closer look at the all-new Lyriq.

Dedicated EV Platform

While some luxury EVs are still underpinned by platforms designed for vehicles powered by internal combustion engines, Lyriq stands out as it sits on an all-new modular EV platform. Showing that it hasn't lost its edge, Cadillac has its first SUV sit on a dedicated EV architecture to optimize design -- resulting in greater range, a more spacious cabin, and an engaging driving experience.

As standard, the Lyriq has a single motor driving its rear wheels. A second motor can be optioned for the front wheels, turning Lyriq into an AWD performance luxury SUV. Providing the juice is GM’s new Ultium battery system, which has been ingeniously integrated into the platform for a lower center of gravity and a near 50/50 weight distribution.

In terms of design, the new Cadillac Lyriq boasts aggressive styling marked by a wide stance and a low, fast roofline. Up front, it features a distinctive black crystal grille that lights up as the driver approaches the SUV. The front also features vertical, slim LED units while the rear is highlighted by a split taillamp design with slim LEDs. The rear end is also marked by a flow-through roof spoiler.

As a Cadillac, the Lyriq still offers a luxurious cabin, but with a whole new level of interior space. The cabin features a dual-plane augmented reality-enhanced HUD, a massive 33-inch-diagonal LED screen, and an available 19-speaker AKG Studio audio system. The cabin likewise features backlit speaker grilles, orchestrated lighting elements and curved screens with hidden storage.
