According to GM, Cadillac is supposed to be spearheading the giant automaker’s upcoming and head-first dive into the deep end of the EV spectrum. To that extent, there have been several concept vehicles that have been unveiled, publicly and privately, to help generate more hype and excitement and based on what we have heard and seen so far, there is indeed reason to be excited. The brand’s flagship electric sedan, the Celestiq, seems to want to bring Cadillac back to its glory days and truly recapture its self-titled “Standard of the World” status.

Celestial Being

The curiously-named Celestiq will be a premium luxury electric sedan and will feature the requisite cutting-edge technology for a flagship of a luxury marque. Cadillac actually previewed the concept sedan to a select group of dealers and media types but no photographs were allowed so we would have to conjure up the sedan’s aesthetics based on second-hand reporting from a select few of those in attendance. The sneak peak also featured Cadillac’s new premium electric crossover SUV, the Lyriq, as the two models share much more than just funny names that end in “q”.

The Celestiq is rumored to continue the design language of recent Cadillacs including the handsome Escala and Lyriq concepts and is expected to use GM’s new BEV3 modular EV platform as well as its new Ultium battery technology, and offer both rear- and all-wheel drive versions. It will be a hand-built sedan of enormous proportions worthy of a true flagship, and cost over $200k.

Taking a page out of the Bentley/Mulliner relationship, Cadillac will be offering an unprecedented level of customization for a truly bespoke experience. No word on available power or range but look for it to reach close to the 4-digit horsepower mark and have an advanced form of the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system called Ultra Cruise.

An avant garde, $200k, hand-built electric Cadillac with prodigious horsepower, autonomous driving and chock full of the latest technology? Although it will be far beyond our means, but we can hardly wait to experience one.
