Judging from the vast quantity of amazing cars popping up for sale these days, it would appear the secondhand and collectible markets have managed to chug right along despite the larger automotive industry's coronavirus-related struggles. Case in point comes in the form of a 1969 Ford Torino Cobra just listed by Mecum Auctions as part of the Kissimmee Summer Special 2020 event slated for the last weekend in August, joining a spectacular lineup including two separate generations of Ford's GT supercars, a modified 2005 example, and a near-new 2018 version, as well.
Under The Hood
This 1969 Torino Cobra will hit the auction block as one of Mecum's stars. Finished in Candy Apple Red, the oft-forgotten muscle car will certainly draw attention and likely, tons of bidding the car received a rotisserie restoration a claimed 10 years ago and shows in relatively pristine condition—if not quite Concours-level at the present time.
Under the hood lurks a 428ci R-Code Cobra Jet V8, which is mated to a column-shifted automatic transmission. The engine bay looks just about clean enough to eat off of, from the spotless black paint lining to stickers, hosing, and components that look newer than most of the cars on a dealer lot today.
Classic Style From Every Angle
With 46,758 miles on the clock, plus a binder that accompanies the sale including a Marti Report, the owners manual and service receipts, plus photos of the restoration process, not to mention two features—in the Muscle Car Milestones magazine and in a Snap-On Tools calendar—the car seems to be perfectly documented. Throw in factory power steering and disc brakes, as well as air conditioning, and the result is a car that might serve to draw some attention away from the other legendary Fords headed for Mecum's auction block.
