When Polestar unveiled its first car, the 1, back in 2020, it basically looked like a Volvo S90 with two doors, and it never truly excited any of us. It looked like a Volvo EV without a Volvo badge. But when the EV automaker unveiled its most recent O2 Concept, it changed the way we thought about the brand.

The Polestar 6 is a sports roadster for the upcoming generation; a hard-top convertible that aims to offer open-top thrills, supplemented further by a powerful electric motor. Add to it all the benefits of electric mobility - and what you get, is a comfortable GT with exhilarating performance.

The 6 Roadster will be special to Polestar, and as you read on, you'll understand what Polestar is truly capable of achieving with its in-house engineers and designers. A first glance reveals just how gorgeous it is, and the retractable roof along with the absence of a gasoline-powered engine mean open-top driving with the sound of the breeze, the leaves rustling away and the birds chirping. But no growl from any exhaust what-so-ever.

Polestar 6 Roadster Looks Futuristic

The 6 Roadster looks radical - and dare we say it - pretty as well. However, it's a design that's likely to appeal to you, but not necessarily someone against the revolution of electric cars and the way they are starting to look. The body surfaces are undoubtedly Polestar's signature styling theme, but it's the best-looking of all the Polestars revealed so far.

It sits low, and the width gives it an attractive stance. The compact 2+2 cabin, a lot like sports cars from an era gone by, with minimal overhangs, and a long wheelbase result in great proportions. It's amazing how they've merged an artistic outline with modern technology, so there's clearly a balance of attention-to-detail and beautifully sculpted bodywork - and the best part is, it doesn't look like it wants to bite you, which is the opposite of what most concepts look like.

Polestar hasn't forgotten the importance of aerodynamics, which is said to maximize range. Look closely, and you'll find integrated ducts that result in better laminar air floor along the sides and over the wheels, while the slender tail light strips function as air blades to keep turbulence at the rear as little as possible.

The chassis is developed from various grades of aluminum, which is said to contribute significantly towards enhancing the driving experience. Every grade of aluminum is labeled, so they could be recycled, further allowing their properties to be retained. There's high grade aluminum, and there's aluminum of other grades that maintain their different characteristics.

Polestar 6 Roadster Aims To Be A Driver's Car

The 6 Roadster is a new kind of sports car - and the one fundamental attribute Polestar wants to carry forward into the future, is spot-on handling. An electric car it may be, but one with emotion, is the key. So this car is not only about torque-rich, neck-snapping acceleration; it's also about what it's going to feel like from behind the steering wheel. Because a car may be quick, but if it isn't fun-to-drive, it's as pointless as wearing sports shoes to a birthday party.

Polestar wants its roadster to be light, energetic and confident. They want that the driver must leave home for work excited, and reach work with a wide smile. That means they're going to have to work on body control, rigidity and dynamics, which happen to be the bespoke bonded aluminum platform's advantages. Thanks to the short roll angles and the high roll damping, the handling dynamics are likely to be as promised.

The model will feature a high-performance, 800-volt electric architecture, also confirmed for the '5'. It is claimed to push out 884hp and 664 lb-ft of torque from a dual motor setup. Expect the car to sprint from 0-60mph in just 3.2 seconds, while it reaches its top speed of 155mph. Polestar will also make just 500 '6' LA Concept editions, which are going to feature the 'Sky' blue color you see in the images, 21-inch wheels from the O2 Concept and a light leather interior.

We Can't Wait For Polestar's 6 Roadster

The coolest feature in the Polestar O2 Concept that was showcased earlier this year, was the autonomous cinematic drone behind the rear seats; it could be deployed when the car was being driven in order to record the ideal driving sequence, and the drone was designed with a mind of its own and followed the car at speeds of up to 56mph. What's more, you could edit the video clips on the 15-inch center display after you parked the car. All of it sounds a bit otherworldly, yes - and it would definitely take some getting used to. But we're left to wonder if it's genuinely making it to the production model, or not.
