Classic Recreations has mastered the art of Ford Shelby Mustang restomods. Founded 15 years ago by Jason Engel, the company has grown from a small shop in Yukon to a massive enterprise. They not only specialize in carbon-fiber clad restomods, but also restoring other people's cars in their own right. The company has now launched one of its most stunning creations to date. This is the world's first carbon fiber 1967 Shelby GT500CR Mustang, being that it's an entrusted licensee of Shelby American.

Carroll Shelby Would Be Proud

The company was able to put together the carbon fiber Shelby in just nine months, a fantastic achievement with the world still in the grips of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is part of the biggest undertaking in the company’s history and is what they have called the embodiment of Carroll Shelby’s legacy.

The changes are not purely cosmetic either. The carbon Shelby is powered by a 2.9-liter Whipple-supercharged Ford 5.2 liter Aluminator Gen 3 Coyote engine. This produces a wild 810 hp, which is harnessed via a Ford 10R80 10-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters.

A Staggering 600 Pounds Lighter

Not only does this car look the part, but there are also weight-saving benefits to doing this. The car is made up of an original 1967 steel unibody, which is then wrapped in a 100 carbon fiber shell. Classic Recreations claims that this saves over 600 pounds! It's a staggering amount that will only go to enhance the car's performance. The carbon fiber is complemented beautifully by some dark red stripes that run over the body of the car, starting at the front splitter and going all the way to the trunk.

Not A Cheap Purchase, But There Is A Lot For The Money

These are not going to be cheap, but you certainly do get a lot for your money. The pricing for a standard GT500 CR with the carbon fiber body starts at $265,000 with the limited release edition costing nearly $300k at $298,000. The carbon edition includes some exclusive badging, designated Shelby serial numbers, and includes a special delivery experience at the Shelby facility in Las Vegas. And a cool touch is that, for every one sold, Classic Recreations will make a generous donation to the Carroll Shelby Foundation.
