The Lamborghini Sian is the first-ever hybrid supercar to come from the fabled raging bull. The traditional battery pack was ditched for a smaller, lighter supercapacitor to power the car's electric motor, doing hybrid technology the Lamborghini way. It is an 808 hp, V12 monster that pushes the boundaries of anything Lamborghini has done before. Carfection has been lucky enough to get a first drive and look at the Sian, which is specifically the FKP 37, a car that used the Aventador SVJ as its platform.

One Of Lamborghini's Most Compelling Cars

What makes the Sian so compelling is, though quite futuristic, looking, also has plenty of nods to the past. The creases on the hood are reminiscent of the Countach, as are the triple taillights within hexagonish housings at the rear of the car. Step inside, and you see a surprisingly understated interior compared to other Lamborghini’s, but it is still extraordinary compared to other cars. You still have plenty of theatre, such as the lift-up guard for the ignition key, making you feel like you are in a fighter jet. And looking at the car as a whole, it's incredibly dramatic, possibly one of the most dramatic Lamborghini's ever created. And that is saying something.

A Slow Road To Hybrid, But A Giant Leap When They Get There

It is ironic that, after not using hybrid technology for so long, that Lamborghini has jumped to something so avant guard. The power delivery is much faster than that of a regular battery pack, meaning it should get to 62 mph in just 2.8 seconds. The supercapacitor also helps to fill the torque gaps between the changing of gears, smoothing out the changes, which allows for greater stability at high speed.  You can go up the gear range as smoothly as you like despite not having a dual-clutch system. It is a bit of change from the savageness of other Lamborghini gear changes.

The Hybrid System Almost Feels Invisible

Carfection comments on how invisible the hybrid system feels when you are driving.  It allows you to fully enjoy the 789 hp naturally aspirated V12 side of the car, without ever realizing that you even have a hybrid system in the car.  Lamborghini hasn’t created a hybrid to save the planet, but more for a lucky few to enjoy themselves in the Sian as much as possible. And given legislation across the world that will slowly ban ICE-powered-only cars, this is a way to get the best of that world, while adding the best technology that hybrids offer. As Carfection says, it is the perfect combination of the past and the future.
