The Rolling Stones have enjoyed one of the most long-lived careers in rock n’ roll and despite their brushes with the law and various other issues, the group is still touring in 2020 in their seventies.

Formed in London in 1962 by singer Mick Jagger, guitarist Keith Richards, bassist Bill Wyman, and drummer Charlie Watts, along with Brian Jones who quit the band a few months before his death in 1969, the Stones have released 26 studio albums and have scored eight number-one singles on the Billboard Chart.

All of the Stones have made a fortune thanks to their music careers, and they all seem to have spent a lot of their cash on classic cars.

Some of the most impressive cars from the Rolling Stones’ various collections date from their heyday in the 60s and 70s when they were enjoying worldwide success in the charts.

Bass guitarist Bill Wyman bought a Citroen Maserati SM in 1971, a limited-edition high-performance coupe that was created when French auto manufacturer Citroen bought Italian supercar company, Maserati. Wyman kept hold of many of his favorite cars for decades, but he eventually put the 1971 Citroen Maserati SM up for sale at an auction in 2015.

Guitarist Keith Richards is often thought to be the hardest-living of the remaining Rolling Stones members, and he was even the inspiration for actor Johnny Depp when he played Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

You might expect such a hard rocker to drive sports cars, but the pride of Richards’ collection was his 1965 Bentley Continental Flying Spur which he called “Blue Lena” after his singer Lena Horne, and which was rumored to contain a secret compartment for illegal substances!

In 1983, three members of the Rolling Stones – Mick Jagger, Bill Wyman, and Keith Richards – all bought themselves Ferrari 400i sports cars. Only around 500 Ferrari 400i models were ever made, and singer Mick Jagger only kept hold of his for a few years, before importing it into the US where it was bought by a collector.

It remained in private hands until 2016 when the vehicle was once again put up for sale – a priceless piece of rock n’ roll memorabilia, as well as an amazing example of a mid-80s Ferrari.

Drummer Charlie Watts has a passion for collecting classic cars, and with a net worth estimated at around $250 million he has plenty of disposable income to spend on his hobbies. Ironically, while Watts may have a garage that would make most drivers green with envy, he no longer has a driving license and is unable to get behind the wheel.

That doesn’t mean he can’t enjoy his collection; Watts has a tailored suit to match each car and loves nothing more than sitting in the driving seat while the car remains in the garage.

A stylish blue 1990 Mercedes-Benz V126 560 SEL with a double Rolling Stones connection was sold at an auction in 2018 for just $19,000. The car was bought by Mick Jagger as new in 1990 before he sold it three years later to his bandmate Bill Wyman.

Wyman obviously liked these cars a lot as he also used to own a silver 1982 Mercedes-Benz V125 500 SEL which sold for the bargain price of $6,500 at an auction of rock memorabilia in 2018, after keeping the vehicle in storage for over 20 years.

On the same day that Jagger picked up his 1983 Ferrari 400i, guitarist Keith Richards also took delivery of his model, which was later sold at auction in 2017. While many Ferrari owners want their supercars to be painted Ferrari red, it seems that Richards was inspired by the Stones’ track Paint It Black when it came to choosing the final color for his car’s bodywork.

The band was traveling Europe on their Tattoo You tour when they bought the cars, and Richards’ Ferrari had only driven 2,200 miles by the time it was sold 30 years later.

Mick Jagger was something of a style icon in the 60s, and of course, he drove a car that fit his image perfectly; a stunning bright yellow 1969 Morgan Plus 8 roadster.

Jagger was snapped driving the Morgan around the French Riviera shortly before he married Bianca Perez-Mora Macias, and it was also the car that he drove to court in 1969 with his then-girlfriend Marianne Faithfull when he and his bandmates were facing charges relating to a drugs raid at one of their homes. The Morgan was sold to a collector in the 1970s.

It seems that Bill Wyman’s passion for Mercedes cars started long before his V126 acquisitions in the 80s and 90s. The bass guitarist, who has an estimated net worth of $80 million, bought his first Benz, a Mercedes 250 S, in 1966.

Wyman had the saloon fitted with custom tinted windows, a novel sight on the streets of London in the 60s, and a modification which resulted in him frequently getting pulled over by the local police. Wyman sold the car in 1970, but later tracked it down and re-bought it in 1991 before selling it at auction in 2015 for $25,000.

The bright yellow Morgan Plus 8 roadster was far from the only iconic set of wheels that Mick Jagger drove around Swinging London in the Swinging Sixties. The bad boy of British pop music also bought himself a stylish 1965 Aston Martin DB6, which cost $14,000 fifty years ago.

That expensive price tag didn’t exactly encourage Jagger to drive his Aston Martin carefully; less than a year after picking it up, he had been involved in a crash with the Countess of Carlisle while driving with girlfriend Chrissie Shrimpton.

Guitarist Keith Richards had one of rock music’s most impressive car collections, even taking into consideration the dozens of cars he has sold over the years. Richards, with an estimated net worth of $500 million, didn’t exactly need the money, so maybe he was clearing space for some new automotive acquisitions!

Richards sold his 1972 Ferrari Dino 246GT to a collector in Japan in 1986, before it was then bought in 2014 by Liam Howlett of dance band The Prodigy. The Richards’ Ferrari Dino then came up for sale at a 2018 auction where it made $500,000.
