The day that a man acquires his license is one of the proudest days of his life, as it means that he can legally operate a vehicle. Although driving on the roads provides a lot of fun, drivers have also opted for other terrains to seek pleasure.

When car enthusiasts are not pushing their cars to the limit on highways, you can find them off-road. That is one of the biggest reasons that vehicles such as Jeep Wranglers and other 4x4s have become so popular. The off-road capability that some 4x4 rides possess allows the driver to have endless fun.

Although big vehicles such as pickup trucks and SUVs are some of the few intended for off-road, some drivers have tried to experiment with their sedans. Some drivers pulled off a great experience, while others were way in over their heads. We wanted to find out which drivers had the necessary skills to drive on unhospitable roads and the vehicles that had off-road capability. Our search led us to discover drivers who should never have taken their vehicles off-road, as they ended up in heaps of trouble. Those drivers got themselves into a sticky situation and took off-roading to new extremes.

Driving off-road can be fun, but drivers struggle to judge the depth of a mud pit and find out when they have already landed in trouble. That is what happened to the driver of this 4x4, as he tried to traverse over what he thought was a manageable mud-filled pit.

To his surprise, the pit was so deep that it covered almost the entire vehicle. The recovery vehicle had to winch out the 4x4. Considering the car's windows were open, he must have swallowed some dirty water and mud.

The reason that drivers buy supercars is to experience the blistering speeds that the cars offer and the great luxury. The driver can experience those two aspects of a sports car on the road, not off-road. When you take an elegant vehicle such as a Bentley off-road, what do you expect to accomplish?

The driver of this Bentley regretted his decision but should've known better. He had given up on the idea of revving the engine to get out of the sand. This should be a lesson to all supercar drivers.

What on Earth is this Porsche Panamera Turbo doing in a mud-filled pit you might ask - it seems that even celebrities aren't immune to sticky situations. The car belongs to Andre Wisdom, a professional soccer player who was roaming the roads to get to the training grounds.

Wisdom was following his satellite navigation, which led him to the mud-filled pit. I can understand that you can get lost and that the satellite navigation can lead you down the wrong path, but how do you not see that ahead of you is a mud-pit?

Taking your 4x4 off-road through the mud while others spectate might give you a rush, but the fun is over when the vehicle gets stuck. The owner of this 4x4 was having the time of his life, as evident by the amount of mud covering the car, but the joy came to a halt when he couldn't move his wheels.

Fortunately for the driver, the recovery car was on standby to get him out of the deep mud. The good deed that the driver did was to show other drivers on the course the spot that they should avoid.

Most of the drivers that get their cars stuck are due to the wheels that cannot get any traction. On certain off-road trails, the terrain is so inhospitable that some drivers find themselves way in over their heads, literally.

This vehicle is submerged so much that the driver had problems opening the door to get out of the car. A truck had to winch the car out of the mess. Although the driver didn't complete the trail, he provided a tremendous amount of entertainment for the crowd.

What was supposed to be a day filled with fun and hunting turned into a water rescue in Pittsfield Township, Pennsylvania. The fire department and rescue team responded to an SUV that was stuck in the water, and one of its occupants was stuck on the roof.

Two men were hunting before they made their way home. During the commute home, the two men thought that the best route would be to take a shortcut across the creek in high water. According to Post Journal, the driver got out of the window and jumped across the rushing water to a dry area.

17 Stuck During Work

Pickup trucks are the perfect vehicles to take off-road, but even those powerful machines have limits. While a pickup truck will give you better off-road capability than a sedan, that doesn't mean that it will tolerate any terrain or obstacles. At least, this truck got stuck while the driver was at work.

Television producers used this Dodge pickup for a commercial shoot. The driver explored parts of the beach that don't welcome vehicles and got the Dodge's wheels submerged into the wet sand. That's gonna be quite a job to get the Dodge out.

16 Point Of No Return

Once you make up your mind to take the off-road path, in most instances, you can't turn back when the going gets tough. The driver has to soldier forth and hope that he can overcome all the obstacles. Regardless of how tough your vehicle is, some roads are merciless and don't want to let you pass.

The owner of this Jeep chose a fantastic vehicle to trek through the muddy water, but some obstacles are too great, even for the mighty Jeep. Both Jeeps look as though they are struggling.

The biggest challenge with off-roading is keeping all four vehicles on the terrain. When one of the wheels doesn't make contact with the ground, the driver encounters problems. Driving off-road means that drivers have to choose their angles well, as a wrong turn will result in wheels leaving the ground, which will get the vehicle stuck.

This pickup driver didn't choose the best option when he made the turn and faced problems getting out of the ditch due to the suspended wheel.

14 Somebody Call The Police

via Daily Mail

No good deed goes unpunished. The police serve and protect the community, but they also need help. The police got their vehicle stuck after they went on a hunt for a missing woman.

During their search, the police ended up on Crosby beach, north of Liverpool, and had to abandon their truck after the wheels submerged into the sand, according to the Daily Mail. The police waited for the tide to recede to a safe level before attempting to get the vehicle out of the sand. Safety should always be the priority.

Having owned two BMWs, I can attest to the car providing excellent performance and reliability. Although BMW vehicles are one of the best sedans to grace the roads, those vehicles perform at the best when on the road, not off it. The last place that you should drive your 3-series car is on the beach.

If you owned an X6, then you could maybe take it off-road but not with an F-30. What I struggle to comprehend is how some car owners neglect to take care of their vehicle. A good rule of thumb to obey is to keep a sedan on the pavement.

12 Rescue Truck Needs Help

via Easy Reader

Automobile manufacturers designed certain cars to haul vehicles out of tight spots. So, what happens when the rescue vehicle needs rescuing? Then, you need to get another rescue vehicle to assist the rescue vehicle. That is what happened to the driver of this rescue vehicle, as he found himself with his rear tires stuck in the sand while patrolling the beach.

Sometimes, all of us need help, and nobody should be ashamed to ask for it, especially not rescue vehicles that help others out of tight spots.

11 It Comes With The Territory

If you want to make an omelet, you have to crack a few eggs the same way you have to bash up a few trucks if you want to make it out in the wild. The driver chose a 2015 white Ford F-250 Super Duty to go off-roading. That was a good choice in vehicle but not a good choice in picking spots to drive.

According to Ford Authority, the driver got stuck in slick mud at the top of a hill. Driver error, unsuitable equipment, and bad luck led to the demise of the Ford. Although the car had a powerful 6.7-liter engine, it was useless when the wheels couldn't get any traction.

10 Stuck On A Tree

via Four Wheeler Network

Be careful when you go off-roading, as obstacles are ubiquitous. That is what the driver of this car found out when he slipped into a ditch. The leap that the car made was amazing, but the result was that he got the car jacked on a log.

That is quite a predicament that the driver had gotten himself into, but he did have a few options. One of the solutions that I can see for this mess is for the driver to get a chainsaw and saw off the log to get the wheels onto the ground. At least, he'll have an interesting story to tell after the ordeal is over.

9  The Wrong Trail

via Irish News

Going off-road doesn't always mean that you steer your vehicle onto a dirt road. Sometimes, it means deviating from the main road. According to the Irish News, a rescue team saved a man after his car got stuck on a coastal walkway.

The man was stuck on the pedestrian-only walkway for 12 hours. The driver of the vehicle failed to heed several signs that indicated the walkway. The steep drop on both sides of the car meant that the driver was unable to climb out of the windows.

Be careful where you drive or where you park, as your car might go down the wrong path. In March this year, the Dyfed-Powys police responded to reports of a car stuck in the Mill Pond, Pembroke. The officers who arrived at the scene told a Herald reporter that they found the car empty.

Nobody was injured, and the driver was not at the scene. The recovery vehicle arrived at the scene and winched out the car from the river. Make sure you have your handbrake up after you park.

Troller Veiculos Especiais is an off-road vehicle manufacturer from Brazil. The Troller T4 SUV has featured in several rally races around the world, including the Dakar Rally. Although the manufacturer built the vehicles for off-road use, drivers need to be careful when choosing their trails.

The driver of this Troller was unaware of how deep the pit was before he entered. Apart from the depth, the pit was filled with mud and wanted to show the Troller driver that he shouldn't mess with mother nature.

You can drive a Dodge Ram pickup off-road but be careful of how far you go. One of the problems that drivers experience off-road is being unable to judge the depth of a mud pit. They only discover the depth once it's too late. That is what happened to this driver when he passed over the mud-filled pit.

The pit is so deep that almost his entire wheels submerged in the mud. That is quite a mess that he has gotten himself into, but with the help of his friend, who winched him out, he was out of there in a jiffy.

5 Camping In The Mud

via Sunday Times Driving

Getting your vehicle stuck in the mud is bad enough, but having alligators circle your vehicle is about as bad as it can get. Two men clung onto the roof of the pickup truck while crocodiles circled the car after they got stuck. The two men recorded farewell messages to their families, as they feared not seeing them again.

They drove close to a notorious tidal area that crocodiles inhabited. The worst part was that the two men were stranded on top of the car's roof for five days, according to the Sunday Times Driving.
