2022 is now just around the corner, and you all know what that means. Nope, not a load of new lockdowns, mandates, or any of that nonsense (well, ok, maybe some of that, too). However, it's the load of new, upcoming cars that we're interested in.
2021 was a great year for new cars, and we have only just recovered (if we don't take the ECU shortage into consideration, that is). Yet, 2022 is set to make this year look dull. From huge V8 SUVs to small electric superminis, there sure is something to satisfy everyone. It's going to be a wild year for cars, and here are ten cars we are really excited about for 2022.
10 Audi A6 E-Tron
Audi is incredible at making great concept cars. The A6 E-Tron is no exception, since it looks so cool. The standard A6 is a dull sedan, but the A6 E-Tron is an exciting fastback like the A7. The rear lights are the coolest feature of the car, since they look like something out of a video game. Plus, like a Dodge Viper, the logo of the car lights up. How awesome is that?
It's likely the production version of the A6 E-Tron will look like this. It's also expected to have a range of over 400 miles, almost 500hp and almost 600 lb-ft of torque. A pretty decent package, and it will also be built on the same platform as the new Porsche Macan EV.
9 Mercedes EQG
The Mercedes EQG is a strange car. An all-electric G-Class just doesn't sit tight with us, but it's happening. The EQG concept is very futuristic indeed, especially that digital front grille area. The two-tone paint on the concept may not be the best combo, but it does show off the car to be something special. Something from the future, despite the design being decades old.
There are LED lights everywhere on this thing. The side molding, which is usually matte black, is now replaced by LED strips, which make the car stand out massively. It's a tad poor taste, but this seems to be what customers of the G-Wagon like and what they want.
8 Porsche Macan EV
There's been so much hype over this car, it's about time it gets launched to the world. Everyone knows the next-generation Macan will be electric and that it will beat every other car in its class. Porsche has been delaying this car with endless facelifts of the current generation Macan. We're getting impatient for this thing, but good things take time and are worth the wait.
The Macan EV will have a significantly longer range than the Taycan, and the new Macan could be a lot more like a coupe SUV, according to spy shots. It will also have a retractable rear spoiler for better stability at high speeds.
7 BMW M2
The previous F87 M2 was a hit, so the new M2 has a lot to live up to. It will again use a de-tuned M3 engine, this time being the S58 rather than the S55. It's expected to have over 400hp, easily, and yes it will be offered in 6-speed manual form for the proper drivers out there. However, the auto option will be the ZF automatic rather than a proper BMW DCT. Pity that.
The new M2 will look a lot more aggressive in comparison to the old one. The front of the car is set to be completely different from the normal 2-series with a square chiseled grille. It will look better than the new M3, though that isn't very hard to beat at all, is it?
6 BMW XM
Didn't Citroën make an XM in the 1990s? Yes, they did, and now it's BMW's turn. This car is going to be made to celebrate the 50th birthday of BMW's M division, and it is pretty wild. The looks are complex and very controversial, but in all honesty, we like them. The only thing we don't like is the two BMW badges on either side at the rear, but they do hallmark the original M1 supercar.
The XM will be the most powerful SUV ever when launched with 750hp. It's a plug-in hybrid, mainly for performance purposes only. Expect it to do a 0-60 time of under 3.5 seconds and maybe a top speed of 200 mph. It will also be the only M-division-only car since the M1. We might see this one launched in May 2022, exactly 50 years after the M division was formed.
5 Ferrari Purosaunge
Another car that is packed full of hype, Ferrari's first-ever SUV could ruin BMW's birthday party as this could be the fastest SUV ever. Ferrari doesn't really want to make an SUV, but due to demands they are, and it will probably turn into their best-seller, like the Urus is for Lamborghini. It will be more of a crossover than a full-on SUV, though.
Under the hood could be a V12 with say 800hp. There also could be hybrid variants with the V6 from 296 GTB. Think of this car as a replacement for the GTC4 Lusso. It will be an elegant car, and it will shake up the SUV world immensely.
4 Mercedes S73 AMG
The Mercedes S73 AMG will be the top-of-the-range AMG S-Class Mercedes, sitting above the S63. It will have over 800hp, and that's mental for a large limousine. Under the hood will be a 4-liter twin-turbo V8 seen in the current AMG GT63, but it will have a hybrid system attached that will provide the electric power. The S73 will also be a plug-in vehicle, which means better fuel economy.
The S73 e might not even be called the S73 e due to trademarks. However, we will have to just wait and see. The nameplate doesn't matter whatsoever. What does matter is that this car will be the fastest S-Class model ever made, and that's pretty wild if you ask us.
3 Fisker Ocean
Another car with a lot of hype, can Henrik Fisker get it right on the second attempt? The Ocean is a great-looking car, and it won't be built in America. Instead, it will be built in Austria at the Magna Steyr plant alongside cars like the G-Class Mercedes and the Toyota Supra.
The Ocean will have a projected range of around 300 miles on the base model and that will be priced at just over $39,000, but thanks to US tax credits, you'll be able to pick that car up for just under $30,000.
2 Aston Martin Valhalla
The Valhalla is a car that will be launched very soon, and it will be a key rival for the Ferrari SF90. It will have almost 1000hp, and the price will be $800,000, which is insane. The engine will be a 4-liter Biturbo V8 from AMG, so it will sound incredible. The Valhalla looks so much crazier in comparison to the SF90, but in fact, it isn't as fast.
A smaller version of the Valhalla called, the Vanquish, could also come out next year. But don't quote us on that, as it hasn't been 100% confirmed.
1 Porsche Cayman GT4 RS
The GT4 RS Cayman is a car we have been dreaming of for years, and it has smashed our expectations. It has a top speed of almost 200 mph and a 0-60 time of around 3.2 seconds. It's a lethal car that makes a mockery out of the 911 GT3. Nothing in its class is as fast as this car.
The aerodynamics are insane on this car. Swan-neck spoiler, a large diffuser, louvers, and more. It's a serious machine, and it costs around $142,000. Getting hold of one is also pretty hard since Porsche is only allowing a few build slots per dealer for these cars.
