The redundantly named Ferrari LaFerrari debuted in 2015 and took the world by storm with its KERS-style hybrid system combined with a massive V12 for over 900 horsepower. The ultra-rare LaFerrari Aperta, a targa variant debuted two years later, but by that time the car was beginning to age. However, it looks like Maranello has a new horse in the stable to replace the LaFerrari, or has at least begun testing a successor.

Storm Brewing

YouTuber Varryx, a self-proclaimed supercar stalker, said he was recording various Ferrari models throughout Maranello one day and happened upon what looks to be a prototype based on the LaFerrari Aperta. Following the car on camera, we can see that the prototype body shares much with the LaFerrari including shape, general body paneling, and rear. The video shows the car maneuvering around on Ferrari's test track, and on some local roads.

Slight Differences

From the rear of the car, the differences are few, but there is evidence of this being a new car. The prominent vertical divider on the rear where the prancing horse logo sat is missing and the rear venting is different. The wing mirrors also sit further out. The solid wrap on the roof lends itself to the idea of the car being Aperta-based since the coupe had doors cutting into the top of the roof. The rear visibility will also be different as the rear window is dramatically different than either the coupe or targa.

Front And Center

The biggest difference up front is a lack of the hood vent that is quite prominent on both the coupe and targa. The nose is different too, without a center line dividing the main intake as well as more aggressive front aero pieces in the bumper, which appear to aid in directing airflow both into and over the car. The side vents are differently shaped and the wheels are new as well, featuring a five-lug design as opposed to the center lock wheels on the present models. The design on the hood still indicate the hybrid setup.

Soul Machine

Going by the sound in the video, it does sound like Ferrari is staying with its iconic V12 which can be heard under acceleration.  With the current LaFerrari packing 949 horsepower, given the expected drivetrain tweaking,  this new models could produce over 1,000 horsepower.
