The Chevrolet El Camino was the only really successful and popular venture of into converting muscle cars into trucks. Thanks to the magic of computers and software, it's possible to visualize any car however a person desires to see it.

In this case, some talented individuals decided to visualize modern and classic muscle cars as pickup trucks. As a result, these renders have adopted nicknames attached to a "Camino" post-script. The ultimate tragedy behind these renders is that they may never be built, thus drivers may never enjoy the feeling of plowing through corners with a truck bed so low to the ground.

8 Ford Mustang

The Sketch Monkey's render of a Mustang pickup takes a lot of cues from the fabled El Camino. Notably the way the roof slants down to form the bed frame, and the large perforations in the wheels hearken back to old-fashioned wheel designs. This render doesn't appear to have sacrificed the Mustang's original wheel base either, preserving the car's ability to do some creative burned rubber artwork. All this render needs is some rear-facing seats in the bed for some additional passengers.

7 1969 Dodge Charger

Thanks to the Charger's original design from the late 1960s not much needed to happen to convert this car into a pickup. All that appears to have happened was a trunk lid delete, converting the acreage of trunk space into a truck bed. It fits the Charger well, like how the Falcon XB GT Coupe's trunk was converted into a storage space for fuel tanks in Mad Max. All this Charger needs is bare metal body panels and several decades cruising the Australian outback, along with some extra fuel cells.

6 Mustang Bullitt

Ordinarily the Bullitt Mustang doesn't offer much difference to the GT, except different exhaust notes, performance brakes, Torq Thrust wheels and a Highland Green paint job, but this Bullitt is out to ruffle feathers. Not only has it been converted to a pickup, but it's also blue. The bed seems to incline towards the cabin, which matches closer to a Honda Ridgeline rather than an El Camino, but it still looks great. The tailgate opening looks functional for any parking lot party prior to a sporting event.

5 Dodge Charger

Where the Mustangs didn't seem to draw inspiration from the F-150, Ford's own truck, Kleber Silva went a different direction with their Charger pickup render. It's a Ram Charger Hellcat, which would be reason enough to own one, adopting the front style of a Charger and welding it onto a very small Ram truck. The bed looks tiny, maybe not even big enough for a desk chair, but the rest of the truck fits together seamlessly. Silva steered away from the temptation to make this another El Camino clone and kept the Charger in its family.

4 Dodge Challenger

This Challenger is almost a bit unrecognizable. The way the hood dips down almost makes it look like a Mustang, but the hood scoop and front lip prove otherwise. Wide, angular body panels and fenders feed this car an aggressive and futuristic edge, however it's far too low to function as a proper pickup. As long as it's got the Hellcat supercharged 6.2-liter V8 offered in the Super Stock, it'll be able to hold its own in drag races. 807 horsepower ought to prove useful in a street fight.

3 Chevrolet Camaro

Surely lots of Camaros have been converted to pickup trucks in real life, but none of them looked quite as good as this. One look at this render sparks questions like "so why hasn't this been done yet?" It's a proper El Camino for the modern era, something that can only be done correctly by modifying the current Camaro. Unlike other renders, this pickup actually looks like it could haul things, thanks to the robust rear-end dragging behind those massive rear wheels.

2 Plymouth Superbird

This is another example of how the pickup design works really well. The Superbird almost looks like it was born to be a pickup truck. The rear half looks like it came directly off of an El Camino assembly line, with the quarter panel starting at the roof and at an obtuse angle forms the bed. It's hard to say what kind of an effect the truck bed will have on a spoiler of that size, but hopefully the aerodynamic disruption isn't enough to send this car into the air performing a spiral of endless loops.

1 Chevrolet Camaro

Another Camaro graces this list, but this time it's a bit more Camaro than El Camino. The back half, where the bed starts continues the natural curvature and trim style of the Camaro, not compromising much if anything to the El Camino's heritage. The roof doesn't connect to the bed with the same obtuse angle as the previous entries, nor does it appear to cave inward. This render keeps the shape of the Camaro relatively intact, almost with a subtle reluctance. The wheels are old fashioned though, sporting enough spokes to rival a bicycle wheel.
