Muscle cars came into the picture in the late sixties and early seventies and have since then remained a fan favorite. Off-road trucks have also become a huge topic of discussion in the automobile world, with better performing off-roaders manufactured every year.
Weird as it may seem, car enthusiasts have found a way to mix both worlds with muscle cars modded as off-roaders. The practice is common in off-road racing circuits, like the Baja 1000. Check out these cool ones we found.
10 Dodge Charger R/T
This mean-looking off-road Dodge Charger R/T was the focus of many car enthusiasts when it featured in the seventh movie of the action-packed Fast and Furious series as Dom Toretto’s car. The car upon sight immediately looks like a machine ready for some dangerous driving.
The car is one of many created by Dennis McCarthy for the Fast and Furious movies since Tokyo Drift. The insane things about the vehicle are its massive tires, pro two off-road chassis system, and the corresponding performance it delivers to match its looks.
9 Ford Galaxie
Talk about off-road racing, and this Ford Galaxie built by Triple Nickel Racing must feature at some point. The car is a prime example of a muscle car mod done right. The big all-terrain tires and higher-level suspension system immediately stand out when in sight, but it gets more interesting as one takes a closer look within.
The cockpit has some high-level equipment like a full roll cage, a GPS Chartplotter, and PRP race seats. Its powerhouse is a 427 Windsor small block engine.
8 Ford Mustang
This 2007 Mustang is a heavily modded muscle car with almost no parts left untouched. The most stand out feature is the fitted active snorkel, which drastically improves the engine's performance and increases fuel efficiency. The front bumper is a custom made DOM tubing type with rocker guards and aluminum skid plates.
The Mustang uses a custom-built lift kit with Pro Comp rear shocks. The interior has fine pieces like a racing steering wheel, but the real deal is the engine. It is a 4.0-liter V6 engine with 1000 miles on it.
7 AMC Rambler
This off-road AMC Rambler is a tribute car to James Garner. The car is a very similar replica to one of the ten cars built 50 years ago for the Baja 500. The car is a rear-wheel-drive that runs a 360ci AMC V8 engine coupled to a T-10 four-speed transmission.
The car featured in the Mexican 1000, and it covered almost 950 miles. The off-road Rambler runs on super Traxion tires at the rear and vintage-type tires in the front. The interior has a full roll cage and hardcore racing-type window nets.
6 Chevrolet Camaro
The 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 displayed featured in Fast and Furious 7. Five replicas of this car were designed and built by Dennis McCarthy and his production crew and are now on sale online, assuming one has the money. In the movie, the car was used in a rescue mission by the fictional character, Roman Pearce.
The doesn't just look the part but performs the same, being extremely modified for off-road driving. The team used the same 4x4 tires for the off-road 1970 Dodge Charger they also built for Dom Toretto's character. They put the 67 Chevy Camaro's body on a trophy truck chassis in the making of the replica.
5 Chevrolet Chevelle
This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle featured in the 2012 SEMA show, a place where automotive manufacturers and individuals can display new and innovative vehicles. The car, in many ways, is an odd beauty, with a Chevrolet Chevelle body on a lift kit and the whole vehicle running on huge off-road tires.
However, not many people seem to be impressed by the off-roader and took to social media to express their displeasure, mainly because the car is a 1970 model.
4 Chevrolet Corvette
This 1969 off-road Chevrolet Corvette, owned by Dewey Powell is a beach buggy and was heavily modified to fit the purpose. It was first discovered at the Strictly Corvettes Show in Atlantic City. The car’s original 69 Chevy body had previously taken a beating, so Powell replaced it with its current 81 Chevy body.
The car’s powerhouse is a 1958 Chrysler 392ci Hemi engine, coupled with a capable four-wheel-drive system. Everything from the front suspension and brakes, to the power steering, was acquired from a 1970 Cadillac Eldorado. Powell’s custom ride is especially complete with the fishing rod attached to its roof.
3 Chevrolet Nova
This 1971 Chevrolet Nova, popularly known as Snortin’ Nortins, is as beautiful a modified muscle car off-roader as they come. The car, originally built by Larry Tunnell and Mick Newton, won the Mexican 1000 in 2011 and 2012 and has changed hands twice.
The car now belongs to Rick Johnson and runs on a Chevy 350 engine. Its suspension system is the Fox Racing Shox system, and its rear axle is the Dana 60.
2 Dodge Challenger
This Off roader found on craigslist is a converted 1972 Dodge Challenger. The car boasts of a 5.7-liter engine and sits atop a 1977 M1009 military frame. One has to see the performance of this perfectly modified muscle car to appreciate it fully. The car clears bumps and navigates hills and slopes with ease.
The car can be purchased at a ridiculously low price of $28,000, considering that it cost roughly about $45,000 to complete mod.
1 Oldsmobile 442
The word on the street is that this 1970 Oldsmobile 442 was the car that James Garner drove in off-road races in 1969 and 1970. Even today, the car looks like an exciting ride, housing a Dale Smith all Aluminum V8 engine.
The car surprisingly operates an automatic transmission, but such is not uncommon in off-road racing circuits. The interior has a short roll cage, and two extra off-road tires come as standard in the trunk of the car.
