It is not unusual to see a car company or even a coachbuilder pay homage to a classic vehicle and produce something in tribute. Jaguar, for example, did some continuation models of one of its F-Types, as did Aston Martin as well with one of their models. But sometimes homages can come in weird and wonderful ways. This is the Ferrari Breadvan Homage. It's a one-off shooting brake tribute that has been created and built by coachbuilder Niels Van Roij Design, and serves as an homage to the 1962 Ferrari GT SWB Breadvan.

This Ferrari Breadvan Homage Is A One-Off Machine

The original is also a one-off machine, being built and designed to compete with the Ferrari 250 GTO at Le Mans. Built to compete against its own kind? Yes, because the car was owned by racing team Scuderia Serenissima, and was an upgrade to their 250 GT SWB to make it competitive against the 250 GTO. This car has been hand-beaten to be as close to the original shape of the 1962 model as possible, but this time it is based upon a Ferrari 550 Maranello instead of a 250 GT SWB.

It was commissioned by an Italian who was a big admirer of Ferrari. It would be easy to assume that the only changes conducted on the Breadvan Homage were the ones that turned it into the breadvan at the rear. However, a lot more was done besides that. The headlights, for example, have been designed from scratch to correspond with the overall look of the car. Finely sculpted air vents and front fenders also appear on the car, making this so much more than a simple change of the rear styling.

Niels Van Roij himself said: "The body of the Breadvan Hommage was hand-beaten by coachbuilder Bas van Roomen. Bas also worked on the clay model of the Breadvan Hommage. Only the windscreen of that car remained OEM and it was painted in one of the eight specially designed reds.” Inside, it has been fitted with retro-styled dials and blue Alcantara upholstery to make the interior feel as vintage as possible in such a modern car. Like the original, this is a one-of-a-kind tribute that will surely never be repeated.
